Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag (12ga)
FFL called today. (Love when that happens)
My new Turkey BOOMSTICK was in.
Season approaches. Time to pick up some more 3” and 3.5” shells to see what she likes to pattern best.
I think my dog is upset that he doesn’t have opposable thumbs.

Had one just like that. Great turkey gun, couldn't hit a duck or goose to save my life. Kicked like a mule.

They’re workhorses, plain and simple. You’ll get lots of good use out of that 835 OP.

Your dog was waiting for you to fall off the chair so he could laugh at you. Teach you to joke about oppossing thumbs.

I have a few Mossberg shotguns. They run well. The longer barrel is good for wingshooting and the shorter for tight places. People that can't shoot a Mossberg well can't shoot. It's different than a Remington or Benelli, but nothing you can't sort out in an afternoon of clays.

Nice choice.
I lucked into my blued/wood 835 last year during the great Walmart firearm clearance sale. I think the price dropped down to $129 on one I was eyeing locally and snagged it as soon as the price did a final drop.
Being into it less that $150 means it always sees action during skeet shoots in the desert and has no problem taking upland birds. It would also do well for turkeys, ducks, coyotes etc. I feel bad for my Montefeltro now as it doesn't see regular hunting/practice.

Give Winchester Long Beard XR a try. My 935 likes number 5s.

I ended up with two of them...many years ago I bought one for shooting slugs in shotgun only zones in New England... Kinda painted on camo finish with thwo barrels...a 24" VR with chokes and a rifles slug barrel with a catalever scope mount... The stock has two changeable combs, one for the shot barel and one raised for the scope sighted slug barrel...
The second one was a newer version with some photo camo finish, 26" VR barrel with extended chokes and FO sights on the VR. Was like new sitting in the used rack at a local gun store with a price tag of $175.00 just last year...couldn't believe the price. Since then I have seen the same model in their used rack for $300....

FOR 129$ ALL DAY
[QUOTE=SVT28;140390960]Nice choice.

I'd of bought as many as I could, & flip them quick. It cost me mucho dinero to find out the 3 1/2" does little more than kick a WHOLE LOT MORE. More pellets won't mean much if your aim isn't there, nothing magical about it. Try not to swallow your mouth call when firing a 3 1/2" turkey load. IMO you lose out on all the aftermarket goodies, & different barrels that are available for the mdl 500.

I have one just like it; our turkey season opened today and mine went with me. I have a Kicks .660 Gobblin' Thunder choke in mine and it likes Federal lead shot 3 1/2" #5s. Have killed a Tom at 52 yards with it, my longest. I haven't tried any of the heavy shot turkey loads yet but plan to soon. I'm down to a magazine full of the Federal #5s.
I also use it for Predator calling; I have a Kicks Howler choke that's specifically for the Dead Coyote loads. I have both 3" and 3 1/2" versions of that, both are T shot. I think you'll like your 835. I've had mine over ten years, bought used locally from an individual for $200 with the Kicks turkey choke in it. Those are $75-$80 at least, so I felt like I got it pretty right. It has been dead-nuts reliable and feeds anything you put in it. I think it's a great value for what I use it for. Still use my Ithaca 37 for wing shooting, though (which typically consists of a once-a-year opening day dove shoot).
Edit: Yes, 3 1/2" turkey loads kick like a government mule. Luckily you don't have to shoot very many of them. I remember the first time I patterned mine, I set up a pattern board at 40 yards, rested an elbow on the bed of the pickup and squeezed one off. I thought, "surely that wasn't as bad as I think it was. I must have not been holding it tight or something." Set up another paper and squeezed off another round. "Yep, it was that bad."
