Unhappy Ruger 10-22 magazine problems

Yesterday I took my late '70's 10-22 to the range to re-zero a different scope. I was using the original rotary 10 round magazines made by Ruger.

What a nightmare with stovepiping and failure to feed. Seemed like the spring inside has lost most of it tension.

I blew them out with my air hose and re-lubed them with some CLP....aside from that, is there anything else I am overlooking?

Haven't returned to the range yet to re-test....NOT the 10-22 I knew it to be.

Randy

Those magazines can collect a lot of crud over time and cease to function. The best way to clean them involves disassembly. Suggest you search YouTube for instructions. You will be glad you did.

I second that. It's not hard to do, just a few little things to be aware of. A good YouTube video should cover it. Reminds me, it's been years since I've cleaned mine...

Watch "Ruger 10/22 & 77/22 Rotary Magazines" on YouTube
https://youtu.be/W1UqbT2CFig

The same exact thing happened to most of my magazines (save the bx 25 rounders) last outing, only 2 weeks ago. All were cleaned with rubbing alcohol and reassembled. The mag springs now are ultra resistant. No kidding, they were tightened down very hard by myself and cousin.

NOTE the reassembly process for tightening down the spring can put some marks on your thumb!

I disassembled one once. Much creative swearing. Assembling these things must be the worst job at Ruger.

Why not spray them thoroughly with non chlorinated brake cleaner, and blast them out with compressed air? No oil should be necessary.
