I'm not sure which vintage your 92 is, but mine is an earlier Brazilian in 45 colt. I also struggled at first trying to find a good mount for a red dot or scout scope until I came across the Pearson no drill mount.
Pearson's No-Drill Winchester Rail Mount
Installation was super easy, just drift out the rear sight and drift in the mount anchor. Then screw in the mount to the top screw hole in the reciever, then use the other screw provided to secure the mount to the anchor. I used a little bit of loctite for reassurance. Vortex strikefire was my red dot of choice.
I've shot about 600 rounds of various 45 colt ammo, including cowboy loads all the way up to the PDX1. No changes in zero. Steel plates run for cover with this gun for sure. Keep us posted on what you decide!
