Default Singapore Police Force Webley MK IV 38

I picked this up from a friend's shop today. 38 caliber with a mint bore, nice lock up, all original. Singapore Police Force intials with inventory number 661 and I like that serial number.
No import marks, 3 inch as opposed to most being 5 inch and no "cross bolt safety" installed.
Anyone know what year this gun was made?

I can't help you with your question, but that is one cool revolver. Can't wait for a range report.

Good stopper with the original 200 grain service loads.

This is a .38 S&W gun, which normally is a joke of a stopper, but the elongated 200 grain pills tumble in flesh and create a horrific wound.

I like it even if it's no S&W in 38 S&W.
That is one I have that has a better trigger pull and
look....

The serial puts it in 1950, based on the general serial ranges given by the Webley Research Service.

If you letter it (£28, about $42), you can get the details and a copy of the original invoice or shipping document:

https://www.armsresearch.co.uk/Weble...%20Request.pdf

For an example, see my attached Canadian police Webley. It’s from the same time period.

I think you have Shanghai in mind, but they were .380's, I think.
They were for Chinese cops. British had Colt Govt. Model .45's. They had bigger hands.

Nice find and cool gun. After living in the UK for 3 years and seeing alot of the guns (all in museums) they have designed and used I have come to one conclusion about the British. They NEVER designed a gun that looked good ...ever. Functional yes.. aesthetically pleasing.. not so much.

When the Germans were going to invade, every gun they had looked beautiful!

Over the last century and a half, Colt and S&W sold lots of beautiful hand guns to the Brits. Colt had a factory there in the cab and ball days. They also had the good sense to buy Triple locks at the beginning of WWI! But by and large their autos are as ugly as their revolvers!! With the exception of that big ol' automatic revolver they mad a few hundred of! Webley-Forrester or something like that. It had the deadliest second hot in the history of the world! While your opponent was rolling on the ground laughing, after your first shot, you simply blew him away!

Still a perfectly useful revolver. Dude used one to rob a bank near Boston this week and actually fired it.

China must like that round as they have adopted a new revolver for their police that fires a low velocity 9mm rimmed ctg. Shades of 38 S&W? Nice pistol, I'm still in sticker shock over what Webleys bring these days.

Sort of reminds me of the Japanese 9mm round for their old Type 26.

Can you post a photo of the Chinese gun? Which other pistols do they use now? I read somewhere that they'v moved on from the Russian ones.

Here is a link to a brief article with pictures. I've seen one article that refereed to this revolver as being in 38 Special, however I suspect the author didn't know the difference between 38 S&W and 38 Special.

You sure wouldn't confuse one for a Mod. 27. That being said those Webleys look bad arse!
