I told my oldest about a Sig 320 at a local shop priced low ($399) though it was apparently new in the box. He likes Sigs and owns several, but not a 320. He has my old duty 220, so my only Sig now is a Tac Ops 1911 in the nightstand. This one had all the goodies, including the hang tag on the trigger guard and the spare mag still sealed in plastic.

Quite a few pro athletes from the various Denver teams live in our town. The shop said one of them likes to buy new guns, play with them, then trade them in on something else. I bought my son a 225 at a very low price thanks to this guy. The 320 was the same deal.

He never bought it, so I forgot about it until my little crew gave it to me for my birthday yesterday. I was floored.

Here it is - in Sigspeak it is a 320CA-357-BSS which translates to "P320, 357 Sig, 3.9in, Nitron, Blk, DAO, Siglite, M".







This is my first experience with the little bottlenecked round. I worked some shootings on the Navajo rez where NMSP blasted some guys, and the round seemed to work like Thor's Hammer. So I'm optimistic.



I love the sights. The night sights are the brightest I've ever seen.



I'll give a try at the range on Tuesday.

I had originally planned on getting a .40 barrel, since I like the round and I have a good stash of ammo. But I'm looking forward to playing with this new round, so I may hold off.

Too bad Birthdays only come once a year... I don't know DA only semi-autos are as popular now as when police first started switching from revolvers, but I like them myself. The .357 SIG has a very good reputation as a man stopper from what I have read. Congrats.

.357 Sig is a fine, flat shooting round. I have popped a groundhog or two and a coyote with my Glock 31 and 32. Had a friend’s daughter pop a coyote with my Sig P239. .357 Sig kills stuff dead.

Happy Birthday. That is a great gift. The most accurate pistol I have ever owned was a P229 .357 Sig that I bought used from my local cop shop. I really like the .357 Sig cartridge, just wish it was more available and affordable. If they ever forced me to give up my .357 revolvers I would switch to .357 Sig.

I'd try the .357 first and see what you think. But I'm not a big fan of the .40 S&W myself. I have heard good things about the .357 Sig. My old department used it for some time for duty carry, and most of the guys really liked it. I think the DPS in Texas may still use it. It's a serious round for serious business as far as I can tell, but I don't have personal experience with it. Let us know what you think of it after you've had a chance to put some rounds down range. I love the 357 Sig. I wish it was more main stream. Ammo can be expensive and reloading it can be a nightmare.

I think you will find the recoil to be a non issue. One of the flattest shooting rounds I ever owned.

I had it to the range today, and I am very impressed.

My first thought was this ain’t no 9mm. Muzzle blast, flash, and recoil got my attention. Very controllable, though.

I worked a double police shooting with the .357 Sig. It wasn’t that long ago so I’ll be a little vague in case there is still some litigation going on. The cop shot guy number one (5’7”, 145) at near contact distance a few inches below his left armpit. It was all on video - that guy dropped like a puppet with the strings cut. He was dead when he hit the ground.

Guy number two was a big boy - 5’ 10” and 375 on the hoof. The cop gave him two in the torso and he fell on his face and ceased to be a bother.

The cop swung his gun to guy number three, who had discovered a love for compliance and was not perforated.

( Note the 100% hit ratio. Less than a year later the same cop killed a miscreant with one round from his AR. Still batting 1000.)

Guy number two lived, but not by much. I sorted the scene and the dead guy out then went to the hospital to check on him. The doc was coming out of the surgery and said the big fella would live. I knew the doc from previous shootings and knew they almost always leave bullets in place but I asked if he got them out just in case. It didn’t matter to the case - it looked like a good shoot and there was no doubt who did the shooting. The doc said - wait here and went back into the OR. An hour later he came out and handed me one mushroomed slug. He said he couldn’t get the other one.

I think this will be my road trip gun. My daughter lives in ABQ which can be a lively place to make a wrong turn.

I am a BIG fan of the 357SIG cartridge, especially in the State Trooper role. Window and door penetration are very good and you already know that terminal ballistics are superb

Do you weigh and measure suspects out of curiosity or is it a requirement on the report?

The new ones don't come with the fitted foam case or a holster anymore - just a thin plastic case with un-cut egg-carton type foam and no holster. I suppose most people don't use the cases, and pick their own favored type holster, so probably no great loss.

I have had as many as fifteen Sigs at one time, with multiples of three different models. None of them were packaged the same way.

I am down to less than a dozen now.

Cool gun. I usually just get a card on my birthday but make up it throughout the year with purchases.

I recall reading TX DPS changed to the .357 Sig because of the historically impressive effects from .357 Magnum revolvers, which ballistically makes sense. This class of round (125 gr at 1400+ FPS) seems to be one in which handgun stopping power actually occurs consistently.

I’m fond of the SIG 320 and very fond of the .357 SIG. My brother and I tested various pistol loads on some 12 ply “bullet proof” glass including .44 mag, 357 mag, etc., and the only one that got through it was the .357 SIG with 125 gr FMJ loads. Very impressive performance! It is an enthusiast’s cartridge but certainly one of my favorites. Happy Birthday!

Everybody could shoot

It appears your P320 has not had the trigger upgrade, because it has the old-style "thick" trigger. When my P320 was upgraded, a new "thin" trigger was installed. Besides the the thin trigger, you can tell if the upgrade was done by a v-shaped milled-out area on the right side of the underside of the slide, next to the striker block, and the presence of a "bird's head" device in the fire control mechanism. I've attached photos of these, below.

While the upgrade was designed to add a drop safety, it had the additional benefit of creating a much better trigger pull. Take-up and reset are now greatly reduced, and pull-through is crisper and smoother. Trigger pull weight is the same, however. If your P320 does not have the upgrade, contact SIG customer service, and they will arrange to have you send it in. It is totally free, including shipping, and it's well worth doing.

I love my P320. I have 4,600 9mm rounds through it, as well as 5,400 .357 SIG rounds. In my 10,000 combined rounds of experience, I've found my P320 to be accurate and stunningly reliable. It is the only semi-auto I own that I have never limp-wristed into a failure to feed/eject while shooting one-handed, and Lord knows I've tried. I also love the .357 SIG round. It's a perfect fit for the P320.

I asked four days ago, LOL! I have fired three different P320’s before and after the trigger work was done. There was a difference to me, I thought the original triggers were better.

So did the guys who owned them, so they sold and traded the guns.

I have a small accumulation of Sigs, 3 in 45 ACP and 1 in 357 SIG. I love my 45's, but I will die owning the 357!

You probably have access to the Winchester Ranger LEO ammo (125gr T-series), that hollow point can pernitrate three layers of 3/16" soft steel!

I walked into a LGS almost 20 years ago and they had 6 Sig P229's in .40 S&W. He had marked them down and I checked all of them. One had a particularly good action in both single and double action.

So $350 later, I walked out with a .40 SW Sig P229 with one mag which was 10 rounds. I bought 4 12 rounders on the web and enjoyed getting use to the P229.

On one of the websites I followed at the time, someone advertised a .357 Sig barrel for a P229 for $100, I bit and a few days later I got it and then went on a .357 Sig ammo search.

I found 2 boxes, 1 ball, 1 HP. First range time....OMG! The groups shrunk to what I shot with a M27 .357 and my BHP in 9mm!

After that, I sent it to Sig for the "Maintenance upgrade" where they replace all the springs, check for wear and install night sights.

Now I have what I feel is the ultimate carry gun. It hasn't let me down in the almost 20 years I've had it.

Weird thing is, when I shoot bowling pin or Friday night steel matches, I don't do well. I do better with the .40 barrel or my P220 in .45. On the other hand, doing drills with the P229, I am much faster with the P229 in .357 than anything.

I've since purchased a BarStow 9mm barrel for the P229 (to save $ in practicing) and it's even better!

But for carry, it's the P229 in .357!
