Default Pawn Shop Find EC9s

Picked up an apparently unfired Ruger EC9s at the High Limits Pawn Shop in Calera, Oklahoma, across the highway from the Choctaw Casino and Resort yesterday. No box, no paperwork, and only one magazine, but I paid $175 and and tax so I was out the door for less than $200.

Plan is to hit the range this week. I'll try to snag another magazine, too.

Very nice, you scored a good quality firearm at a Hi-Point price.

My brother owns an LC9s (which is basically the same gun with adjustable sights) and it's great litte compact 9mm Pistol.
Some folks say that the recoil is snappy, but I can honestly say that my brother's LC9s actually is more pleasant to shoot than my LCP.

I've actually been thinking about getting an EC9s myself later this year due to the extremely tempting $250 pricetag I've seen on them, so getting one for $175 is a real steal. If I ever came across one at that price then I would jump on that too. Congratulations.

Been my EDC for a year. I like it a lot. So much that I bought another and it now lives in my car.

This was at 50' rapid fire with full power JHP ammo. I think not bad for a compact pistol.

Have been in that shop several times. They have had several firearms I would like to purchase, but I don’t want to deal with the transfer paperwork as I live in Texas.

Great find.

Good little guns. I had one for a time, but sold it when I got drawn into a Shield with a green dot laser.

But there was nothing at all wrong with the Ruger. Good choice, and great price.

I don't think they come with but one magazine, but you can find them online with no trouble.

A lot of "value" pistols ship with fewer or single mags. Keeps the cost down. My KelTec P-11 only shipped with one. But one of the reasons I purchased it was because it can use 59xx and 69xx magazines. It was designed back in the day as a police back-up pistol when uniforms used a 59xx and many detectives used 69xx. At least that is my understanding.

Looks like a good score.

I tried all kinds of things with my LC9s to help me like it, different ammo, Hogue grip, revised grip. But in the end it just doesn't fit my bony hands. The Kahr CW9 and Walther PPS M2 work much better for me.

I typically carry one of several models of Glock on a daily basis, but after shooting the LC9s and G43 side by side I found I preferred the Ruger. I've shot several LE courses of fire with it without a single malfunction and I find it plenty accurate and ergonomic.

My LC9s is now my primary off duty carry, and I had Nixon Leather in Alliance, Nebraska, make a custom holster for me with shark skin upper and classic basketweave lower.

I have the LC9s in my holster right now. I paid like $310 out the door for it new and it came with only one magazine also. I think new ec9s cost around $210.
When you buy another mag for it go with the Ruger made in Italy by Mec-gar. They are supposedly better than the Ruger mags made in the USA.
A heads up for you....if you limp wrist these guns they are prone to failure to eject and jam against the next round in the magazine. Guess how I know. After 100 rounds my hand hold was a bit weak and then it jammed from limp wrist.
For a compact short barrel these guns are quite accurate. The recoil isn't that noticeable for me.

My LC9s has never jammed, but I'm in the same boat as LVSteve. That thin hard grip hurts my hand when I shoot it. If the grip works for your hand it's a great little gun with a better than average trigger out of the box.

Well, after a month and a half, I really like the EC9s. I have a DeSantis holster on the way from the 'Bay for it, and I already have a second 7-shot magazine for it. It is now sharing time with my S&W Model 469 as my EDC. I forgot to take pictures when I took it to the range, but it is accurate enough for government work. (I'm retired, though.) I did paint the front sight with a glow-in-the-dark paint kit (white base coat and multiple coats of glow paint) that works very well.

Faulkner - that holster is purty! you need to put something like an Hk P7M8 in a holster that nice!! . I also like the EC9s although mine is tucked away as a hideaway most of the time.

Forgot to mention: as of last year, Ruger would still swap out the el cheapo USA mags one-for-one if you complain and send them back to them. Hopefully they still have some Mec-Gar mags left.

As far as limp wristing pocket pistols, it can cause malfunctions in many models. KelTec made a .40 S&W version of the P-11, also available as a conversion kit, as well as a .357 Sig.

Anyway, limp wristing the P-40 was such a problem, that Kel Tec got tired of customer service calls and warranty returns of perfectly functioning pistols, they dropped the .40 and .357 Sig options.

Firm grip, squeeze the trigger.

I've been carrying the EC9S for about 1 1/2 years now, and have never had a failure of any kind. I carry with the regular mag but I also have two with the little extension, as it is a little snappy and the extension calms it down a lot. I painted the sights with white nail polish and it helps tremendously. I sold my G42 after buying the Ruger. Say what you will, but I want a safety on my "pocket" gun. It's very easy to disengage with my shooting hand thumb. Great buy for $200 out the door price.

i bought one of these a few years ago, partially because it was a limited run of 1500. has the Prescott city seal, a stagecoach, and a cowboy on the slide. prescott is of course where ruger is, and my home down. has kind of a nickel slide.
i wanted the external safety so that was a plus too.
I didn't intend to fire it, but glad i did. first time you would pull the trigger back, and it would stay back, not resetting. ruger is only about 15minutes from my house there, so it was an easy trip for customer service. They had it back the next day. If i remember right i got two mags with the gun. I just ordered a couple of days ago a ten round mag for it, curious to see if it works. I also bought a cheapo iwb left hand holster, and two iwb mag carriers. I think it's gonna replace the glock, just a lot lighter.

I also carry and shoot a Kel-Tec P-40.
Yes it is a hand cannon.
Issued to me when we did "no-knock" narco busts.
Ahhhh, the memories started flowing again.

FWIW, I think the Ruger EC9/LC9/LC380 is the classiest looking single stack 9mm that isn't a mini 1911. It reminds me of a PPK a bit, and honestly I sort of think of it as the modern equivalent of a PPK.

In addition to its classic looks, it has a pretty good trigger for striker fired gun and a good price, so it's hard to beat IMO. I'm sure I'll end up getting one at some point.

The 9 round Ruger magazine is on my radar, but the ProMag 10 rounder has a bad rep.
