I had always wanted a 1911, finally got one , it was unreliable
Was told "you gotta break it in, 500 rounds minimum , keep it cleaned and lightly oiled"
Sure .. Still unreliable.. After 1000 rounds it seemed to smarten up so i offeted to trade it to a friend for a ruger 44
We test fired each others guns and the 45 was back to doing its tricks my friend looked at me like i was trying to rip him off . No trade
I eventually traded it for a nice winchester 97 with full disclosure
The 97 wouldnt feed from the magazine haha
Traded junk for junk
Id still like a good bottom feeder , but i keep buying revolvers

That's the exact kind of stuff my OP was about. Companies put out an obvious lemon with a gun that we plan on defending our lives with. Instead of outrage and indignation, we get 'oh, it needs to be broken in', or 'are you holding it right', or, 'try this ammo or these magazines'. That's bonkers.
A life saving tool that malfunctions like that is, in my estimation, a complete disgrace on the company and those who put the gun together at the factory.

It definirely got my attention i will never trust that brand again and am wary of automatics in general
I have a hi standard m-101and a s&w 22a that seem to function fine however
For defence though i would choose a freshly cleaned and oiled S&W , one that i have used and practiced with and have grown to trust

I must be an outlier. I have several 1911s (mostly older Colts), they all are 100% reliable. I've since turned them all into target guns - adjustable sights, tightened up with match bushings. They are still 100% reliable. Well, almost. My .38 special doesn't feed 100%, but is close enough to satisfy me. 100% is expecting a bit much for full wadcutters.
