What to trade for a Sig 226???
I've got an "extra" Sig 1988 P226 in very decent shape.
I'd like to trade for something...but I can't figure out what to ask for.
It's a darn good hammer-fired DA/SA pistol. I don't really need anything more, but I hate to have it just sitting in the safe, so it's either sell or trade.
Selling it is pretty straightforward. I'd ask somewhere around $600 and see what I get.
But I'd rather trade.
So what would be a good trade. I don't want any more striker-fired guns (I've got a 5" M&P 2.0 that had had work done on it for competition by the original owner and a Walther PPQ).
So that leaves hammer-fired pistols, either DA/SA or SAO.
But what's as good or better than a Sig 226?
(I've got a couple of BHPs, some .45s, a few Sigs, and some early Walthers….)
Suggestions? Thoughts?

Maybe a CZ 75? I've never had one but they have a strong following and are of good quality.

If I were in your shoes, I’d hang onto the Sig.

How about a 4506? Or maybe a revolver or a rifle of some type?

$600 feels a bit steep. I can get them locally on VA gun trader for 1-2 less

If you are asking interested strangers what you want...
I vote for a P08, a Colt or other high quality 1911, a P38 or Beretta 92. All well-proven military sidearms and mostly metal. Good luck in your decision.

Forgive my lack of interest. Given its "decent" condition, showing rust on the grip screws, I can only imagine what lies underneath those rubber Hogues. The value of your Sig is reflected in its apparent lack of proper maintenance.

If you want to stick with the 9MM Parabellum cartridge, there are always the SIG MasterShop pistols.....The P226 SPORT and P226 SPROT Stock, or the X-family....X-5s and X-6s
Going this route will allow you to continue using whatever P226 magazines you have on hand

Always trade up… you have an excellent gun worthy of keeping, night stand duty or trade fodder when you see something you cant live without.

As for value, I just bought a very high condition P226 made in West Germany,(1993) Triple matching serial numbers, 2 LEO Mags for $500 OTD. I think based on the pic you sent that you will find it difficult to get $600 for it or $600 in gun trade. I think that is about a $450 gun here anyway.
As for trades, I would keep it or look for a 1st year production P226 (1984) with box or 1st year P220 1975/76 in 9mm or 30 Luger.

Definitely CZ75. I have a Tristar version of the CZ75 compact that I love, but I really need to discipline myself and get a full size. After I installed a spring set from Cajun Gun Works, I prefer my Tristar to my DA/SA SIG P229 w/ SRT.

Well if u are looking to trade or sell...best thing to do is get it looking as nice as possible...original as possible...600 seems quite high...i can only say without knowing you. .I have no idea what type of firearms u like...so many choices available. ...more info u can provide will make it better to advise you....God Bless,John
If it were me...and the 226 is not what u want...go to a few gunshops and handle whatever catches your eye...and go from there

Plus one to this. Sorry to see such a good gun left out of the maintenance schedule.

Being a 1988 Sig P226, it should be 9 mm West German production. These are great and reliable guns!
Clean it up, and trade for something you desire! Just know this is a great gun.
Mine is a mid 90s, has dead night sights, but so reliable it is my bedside gun.

Just to thank everyone for their suggestions.
I am sorely tempted to keep it...but I found an H&K P2000 at LGS and we'll be doing most of that trade with the Sig.
I figure the H&K is at least an equal trade, I won't be putting any more $$$ into the Sig, and I sorta liked the LEM trigger on the H&K.
And there were some very good suggestions...CZ, Beretta, P08, 1911 and I agree they are very good guns....and I have them...which is why I was asking here.
Again, I appreciate the time folks took to help me out.
(And just a side note...the pic I enclosed was when I first got the gun. Before I sent it to Sig and before I replaced the grip and grips screws with G10s. And I do keep my guns up. I should dump that pic as it isn't representative of the gun. But I do appreciate folks attendance to details and it's a good reminder.)
