Default poor, abused butt plate

I should have taken a picture of the rifle before I cleaned it up and restored it. many dings, gouges, dents etc and the barrel/action was mostly surface rust with rust where the wood met the metal. had to hold the stock and tap the barrel on the edge of my work bench to get it out of the stock. probably hasn't been out since 1936 when it left the factory. also probably spent some time sitting in a barn. it is a Remington 41 Targetmaster. I bought it for the stock to put on my uncle's 41 I learned to shoot on when five and it now sits by the front door with some CBee longs nearby for stray things. I guess I need to look for a new butt plate. lee

You did a nice job! I think I’d leave that butt plate just the way it is as a reminder of the rifle’s history.

The reproduction and the original are the same shape, but different markings! And the repro costs more than the gun first sold for!

I agree with leaving the factory plate in place.

Small piece of Kydex, some sanding work, a couple of countersunk holes, and you've got a replacement buttplate.

I have a couple of Remington mod 41 single shot rifles. To me they seem
to be unusually well made compared to the other manually cocked single
shot .22 rifles that were available "way back in those days".
