I'm sure you could take a turkey with either the rifle or revolver however it's not legal in the state I live to use anything other then a shotgun with #4 shot or smaller.

In True Grit (the book) the Texas Ranger used a Sharpe's, They felt that there wasn't much worth eating left.
My wife's grandfather left his Nevada ranch in the late 1920's to come back to Ohio, he used a Marlin in 25-20 for small game.

I proposed that black powder "squirrel rifles" be legal for turkeys on private land in MI. Could not get any interest in the idea.
Back in the day, I think people shot game with whatever they were
carrying. Faulkner wrote a story, "The Bear" I think in which
he mentioned men taking turkeys with cap and ball pistols from
horseback.

We can use rifles in Va. some counties ( eastern ) require that you’re at least 10’ off the ground.
Used .22s in Florida

When I was a wee lad, I overheard Gramps, after having a brandy, or two, relating stories of taking turkeys with a rifle by nailing them at the base of the neck so as not to waste good meat. This was during the early 1900s and deep into the Depression years.
Being of hard-headed German stock, I'm sure that any existing game laws didn't amount to a swallow of warm beer at the bottom of the stein to him. He came from a large family and eventually had eight of his own brood to feed.

Shot a lot of turkeys with a deer rifle. it is legal here in Texas during deer season. Head shot doesn’t hurt any meat at all and not hard to do if you can get them to freeze up.
