Default H&R Sidekick 22

Thought I got a sweet deal on this 1972 vintage H&R revolver.
A broken plastic piece on the mainspring is causing light strikes. Jack First Parts to the rescue at the tune of $30 for an all metal rod. Other than that this 50 year old pistol is in excellent shape.

Should the LGS dealer be on the hook for the thirty bucks? I’m a long time loyal customer.

Not unless he was aware of the problem and failed to inform you. Or if he had offered some time period during when it could have been returned. That problem with breakage of the plastic-head strut is very common with older H&R revolvers (probably age related failure), but it is a simple fix. Last time I replaced one was about 7 or 8 years ago, I think the all-steel replacement strut cost me about $15 at the time from GPC. Shipping wasn't much of an issue as I had ordered a half-dozen or so parts for other guns at the same time.

I'll catch him with a few loyal hang-arounds present and shame him into half off a case of tannerite($15).......he'll recoup that cash quickly.......Still a very nice 50YO revolver.

That's a very common repair on those H&Rs.

All the later H&R revolvers with the plastic saddle for the hammer on main spring strut are prone to breakage. I think that plastic is broken down with cleaning solvents. They didn't sell plastic piece so I got a piece of aircraft alumilum plate and cut them out on bandsaw. It really wasn't necessary but I drilled and pinned them to strut.

Contrary to what the greenies tell you, plastics break down and faster than they want you to believe.

That said, Don't pollute. Plastics don't digest well in stomachs.

Common sense?

About 4-5 years ago that same part split on an H&R 900 I bought in the late 1960s. I made a replacement out of some similar plastic/nylon I had laying around and ordered the part online, it came in but the home made part is working fine so I left it in the gun and keep the "store bought" one for a spare.

I thought He would make it right; offered to have it fixed. Nah I've got that covered. Got a case of tannerite for his cost

They're good folks.
