On a Rand the frame is marked US. They normally have an FJA inspector stamped behind the left rear trigger on the frame. GHD stamp would be a Colt frame. Mine was made in 1942 and has a 7 digit # 123xxxx

Your SN indicates a 1943 delivery. Remington Rand manufactured the largest number of M1911A1s during WWII, a little over 1 Million, representing 54% of the total supplied to the military. The sight you describe was definitely not original. It is entirely possible that it may have other non-original components so be very careful if you plan to buy it. You don't want to pay a collector price for a shooter-grade gun.

With all the trickery that goes on these days, I wouldn't buy anything without several good quality pics from a reputable seller unless you know the person. I've never seen a Bomar rear sight marked USMC.

I can't imagine why the USMC would want to brand a BoMar rear sight.

Sounds odd to me. I would have to see the pistol, but it would be very odd for any branch of the services to place their stamp on a Bo-Mar adjustable sight.

It sounds like it could be a match ball gun, can't tell without pictures.

Same here, USMC rarely marked equipment.Only ones I recall are certain scopes and the USMC marked 40X`s.May be others but not many.Guy came to my gunshow table recently with a USMC marked M1 that he was convinced it was origional, could not convince him it was bogus and let him believe what he wanted.

It's been many years ago, but a guy once tried to sell me a Remington Model 51 pistol which had USMC engraved on it. He almost punched me out when I told him that the Model 51 was never an issue pistol for any military service. He insisted that his was a real USMC gun, that he got it from some Marine, etc.

Thanks everyone for the replies, the USMC stamp made me curious. I will see if I can get a picture, but the stamp is so small and dark may not have much luck
