My Lever Action 22's
I have always liked lever action 22's and have owned quite a few over the years.
The three you see here won't slip through my fingers like so many have in the past. They're all keepers!
From top to bottom, they are:
Winchester 9422-M
Browning BL-22 Grade II
Marlin Golden 39A
[IMG] [/IMG]
[IMG] [/IMG]
The Winchester used to belong to my brother, and though it looks like it's been rode hard and put up wet, all the flaws are strictly cosmetic. My brother left it sitting in front of his swamp cooler many years ago, before discovering what a mistake that was! He subsequently attempted to remove all the rust and cold blued it. It's still a wonderfully smooth gun with great accuracy from the .22 Magnum.
Here's the Winchester 9422-M by itself.
[IMG] [/IMG]
[IMG] [/IMG]
Here's my beautiful Browning BL-22 Grade II photographed individually.
[IMG] [/IMG]
[IMG] [/IMG]
And finally, here's the Marlin Golden 39A that was manufactured in 1981.
[IMG] [/IMG]
[IMG] [/IMG]
Thanks for looking, and if y'all have any favorite lever action .22's, please post some photos!

I've owned the Winchester and the Marlin and several friends have owned Brownings.
All three are fine rifles.

My one and only lever action 22 is a vintage 1966 Marlin 39A Golden Mountie carbine. Very fine shooter, indeed.

I've got a Marlin 39A, Marlin 56 and an Ithaca model 49 in the stable currently. While the 39 is an amazingly high quality rifle, I will say the 56 is no slouch, especially with the peep sight setup I'm running on it currently (also it uses the same type of magazines that my H&R Leatherneck uses!). The Ithaca is just a super fun rifle, more accurate and enjoyable than it should ever be for a $125 rifle.

I've got the 39A, built in 1947, that was Dad's. Still shoots like it did when I was a kid. Take care of guns and they will last a life time (or three!) It's going to my youngest daughter, Sarah.

Those other guns are collectibles, excluding the Browning BL22 but that’s a gun I’d rank below a Henry.
For a true rough use .22 lever that you don’t have to worry about damaging, the Henry Frontier is a beauty. They shoot great, are reliable as heck, come with a buttery smooth action, YES they belong to stand in them ranks and they’re American made unlike the Japanese BL22.

For a collectable, I think I would select the steel receiver of the Browning, Winchester or the Marlin over something called "Zamak 5" used in the receiver of the Henry....whatever that is. Sounds like zinc.
I appreciate the fact that the Henry is made in America, and their unwavering warranty, but I wish the receivers were steel and not a zinc alloy.
I'm stuck with this old Marlin 39A and Weaver 4x scope gifted to me in 1964. Thousands of rounds without a hitch.

My guns are not collectibles.......They hunt. They shoot. They ride on the 4 wheeler/tractor/golf cart.......And they way I take care of them they could still be doing that 100 years from now. Oh! And they held up for "tough use" for many years.

All I’m saying is your collection deserves a Henry.
I’ve found the Marlins clunky and overly heavy, and dislike the Browning for too many reasons. The Winchester is a great gun, though. I’d rank it above the Henry, but the Henry is better than the awkward Marlin and Browning for sure.

I have a Marlin "Original Golden-39A." It had XS peep sights
installed before I bought it. It has the slim foreend and white spacers on buttplate and pistol grip cap. Like it enough so I don't need any other lever .22. Have looked at both Winchester and Browning .22s, however.
My youngest son has an Ithaca M49, single shot .22. When I shoot it the
ejected brass tends to hit me right in the forehead. Prefer the Marlin!

I also own a 39a Mountie from 1955. Given to me from Dad. Great rifle. Collectable or not, my sons and I like to shoot it often. It always goes up to camp with us, every trip.

Wow, first time I've ever heard the word "clunky" used to describe a Marlin 39A rifle. To each his own, I guess.

I love all 22’s but especially the old ones with tang/peep sights and lever actions. I’ve got half a dozen Marlin 39’s, a Win 9422, a couple of Ithaca 49’s, a Ruger 96/22, a Navy Arms 1866 and maybe some more I can’t think of right now. We’re traveling and I don’t have access to my pictures and inventory.

I shoot the rimfire silhouette and piched up a Marlin 39 from 1958. Has micro groove rifling. didn't like the accuracy at all. Couldn't find anything that would group under an inch and a half at 25 yards. Bought this browning BL22 grade II with the octagon barrel. It likes CCI standard and Aguilar match. Sold the Marlin. They still let Me shoot My 1949 vintage 61 pump.

I believe the 1954 would have an L prefix in the serial no.

I have a standard Winchester 9422 and a 9422 Legacy. Both .22 LR. When I take someone to the range for the first time, I bring my 9422. From seeing so many Westerns, most people instinctively know how to use a lever action rifle. I think it is the perfect rifle to introduce anyone to the shooting sports.

There was a time I once owned a Winchester 9422, Marlin 39, and Browning BL22 all at the same time. I have no negatives about any of the three, but my favorite is the Browning BL22 and it's now the only one I currently own.
I have really, really, REALLY tried to like the Henry, but alas, I've not been able to. I've gone to gun shows with money burning a hole in my pocket to buy one. Every time I hold one I end up laying it back down and walking away. I mean no disrespect to any Henry fans, but I just find them unattractive.
Ain't it great, though, living in America where we don't all have to agree on our likes and dislikes.
