How about back to the basics? Colt factory GI issue on a Colt 1911A1 repro. Sometimes the original is the best way to go.

I had these made for my dad, a retired firefighter. He has an original Colt 1911 in .38 Super he bought back in the 50s or 60s I'm guessing.

Blurred out his name.

EDIT to add: Took a while to find it, but adding a pic of the grips on my Sig GSR that I took prior to giving them to him.

Usually associated with revolver grips/stocks, these are by John Hurst, never been on a gun. Just keep them in the little display box next to an unused set of revolver grips by John. Like a little art show (to me anyway). Not sure what wood , they are very dense , with a nice grain , you can see in person.

I have a pair of rubber Hogue palm swell grips on my lightly customized RIA GI clone. I really like the palm swell on them. The ones you pictured have a bit more swell and look like they would fill a hand perfectly.

Thought about getting the palm swell grips that Hogue makes, but ultimately decided to just get a regular set of cocobolo slabs.

1911 Grip Panels are great because there are so many options.

This first one is a favorite of mine, the things this 1911 must have seen...

The frame is a 1918 Remington, slide is of course Ithaca, High standard barrel. The grips were made in the Philippines and nicely date themselves. My understanding is that they were sold to GIs on their way to/from Korea.

Considering the gun is over 100 years old, and probably served in at least 3 of our major wars...and looks like it. I don't know about anyone else, but to me I would rather have a gun that just screams it's character at me, then a new and unused gun.

My favorite set of 1911 grips would have to be the pair of Ropers that I lucked into. The ebay auction indicated that they were plastic. They are in fact walnut. I ended up buying the pile of plastic grips on the auction, and selling the rest of them off for $20 more then I paid for the whole pile. So I got this set for negative 20 bucks.

The outrageous thing about them is that they are almost perfect to my hands, which is a miracle considering they were all made custom, to order, based on the tracing of someone's hand.

I made a video a while back to try to show what these are, also to try to explain Ropers to people.

The zebras are a recent find.

I bought the walnut pair back then. Refinished twice and modified to clear the MS housing pin.

How about some custom rubber you've never seen before?

SG-688 pointed me to these recently and I was lucky enough to win the auction. Made by Panther Grips of Riverside, CA (there's nothing on the internet about this outfit ever existing) and modeled after the aforementioned St. Henri trapezoid grips featuring skip check panels and a nicely checkered front strap.

1. Ruger SR-1911 w/custom eagle wing grips
2. Sig 1911-22 w/custom wood grips can't remember what kind of wood but I like the way it looks on this pistol.

1. Ruger SP-101 w/Hogue rubber grips. Not pretty but soften of the feel of those magnum loads.
2. S&W 24-3 Lew Horton .44spl. Of all the guns I've ever sold this is the one I'd most like to have back.

He made made them for me of fiddleback maple wood, from trees planted 60+ years ago in our back yard by my Mom, and my Wife. The emblems are unusual, as they are recessed into the grips, and filled in level with the surface with clear acrylic material.

I found these to go along with the set listed in Post# 10.

Again, these are Amboyna and Green Pearl. The difference is at the base. These are made for a 1911 without a mag funnel. I think they look great on my Kimber Rimfire Target.

I'd like to compliment you on your choice of grips, made from combined Ambrosia burl wood, and Green Pearl. I've never seen that combination. As my favorite color is green, that cleaver combination really flops my mop. Those grips look just beautiful on the many styles, and finishes of 1911s that you show them on. I'll probably never find a set of grips like them. I shouldn't be looking fore something else firearm related to collect, since i'm starting on my 89th year, but, those grips look extra special nice to me, and I can't help but wish.
