A flat top Ruger .357 with "character".
I saw this guy hiding out in Cabelas last week. It was priced right ($399) but I'm in the middle of a bathroom repair and didn't want to spend the dough so I left it for somebody else. I even told my neighbor, who is a Blackhawk fanatic, about it.
I went back today and it was still there. Then it dawned on me - how often do I actually need a bathroom? I have a yard. On the other hand, I can cock this thing at the TV every single day.
I actually got them to take the trigger lock off so I could confirm it was unconverted. Then I hemmed and hawed and made fun of the Franzite grips and pointed out what a loyal customer I am. I got it for three-fitty, plus the background charge.
The aforementioned neighbor came through with a busted set of Single Six grips, which fit just fine. Ruger grip frames are a mystery to me, but I'll find some decent ones.
No novel printed on the barrel. Just the facts.......
This must be why they call it a flat top.
No steenkin' transfer bar. I am free to shoot myself in the leg at my convenience.
It has some holster wear at the usual spots, but hasn't been refinished and locks up nicely.
I need to dig out my Skeeter Skelton books, pour me a glass of double-rectified busthead, and enjoy. The bathroom can wait.
PS - Its a birth year gun for me.

Drink too much of that Busthead and you'll wish you had the bathroom!

What a great price for a flat top. I see lots of “XR3” grips for sale on EBay. Stag seems plentiful. “XR3 RED” is the Redesigned longer reach grip shape on later Rugers. Your grips are identical to 1st generation Colt SAA grips though the anchor pin hole is in a different spot and there’s a little cut out on top in the back.

Love it. I have a second year flat top .44 with the 6 1/2” barrel and a 6 1/2” old Single Six but have been on the lookout for a deal on a matching .357 to sort of complete the set. No luck yet. Ya done good!

I love it too! I’m always on the lookout for old model Blackhawks but I never seem to find any

Nice!
Character in spades!
Most people forget that Micro Sight Co. was started by former employees of King Gunsights, and were considered a custom grade, high end product.
Old Bill Ruger knew what he was doing!

I’d say you made a wise choice OP. Blackhawks are fantastic revolvers, built like bank vaults and last forever.

I think Skeeter drank George Dickel TN whiskey, not Old Busthead.
He had a Blackhawk with 7.5 inch barrel, not commonly seen. But I think he also owned one just like yours, barring the chipped grip.
I expect that old gun will still decimate the local coyote and jackrabbit populations.
Get it a good, lined El Paso holster to minimize further blue wear.

Nice find! Always liked the 3 screw Rugers and the Flat Tops are just a special variation.
Treat those early black Ruger XR3 grips nicely. Even though there's only one complete panel in the set, they still have some $$ value to Ruger addicts. Finding an odd side to replace one that has broken on their gun is always a challenge. Even the screw & escutcheons are special as is the period Ruger Medallion in the broken panel. The panel can be fixed too as an option.
Looks like a steel ejector rod housing (?) and the early small ejector rod head that they used on the Single Six. Both fixtures on the earlier F/T 357.
I'd bet that's an accurate revolver. 357 can turn in some great long range shooting.
Any thoughts of a 44spcl or other caliber conversion on it?
Steel grip frame, ivory (verified antique of course), engraved, ect.
Must be lots of neighborhood BBQ's to attend around there!
..Or you could just wear it around the house to remind the Mrs. where the Bathroom remodeling money went too.

Love my flat tops, though mine are all currently .44 caliber. I plan to add (again) both barrel lengths in .357.

A flat top Ruger .357 with "character".
I am more of a colt SAA guy, but I did add a Ruger to the stable.

I found this 1959 .357 Flat Top at a local shop about 10 years ago. Unconverted and built like a tank. They are getting harder to find.

Mine came with target stocks but I treated it to a set of stage. Flattops are special. Congrats on a great deal on a special gun.

Finally got it to the range. All I had was some scroungy Herters .38 Specials, but it handled them with aplomb.
