On New Years eve I picked up the A2 that was waiting for me at the LGS and finally had the chance to take it out.
Just wow... on all accounts.
First the optics: The gun is finished flawlessly with a nice even deep black, looks more like a melonite or duty treat over a very fine grain mat finish. Does not look like a traditional blueing. Beautiful. Overall the gun has a non nonsense style, very plain and barebones, however the details are nice. All small parts are blacked out, including the bushing and all parts have the same level of finish and that makes for a nice look. Love the Hogue grips. They are top notch quality with great checkering and beautiful figure. I love that the gun can be broken down and reassembled without tools/wrenches although the fit is perfect. The best about the gun is the slide/rail fit. Extra tight, no lateral play anywhere, not even a hair and still racks very smooth. The tight fit is the same whether the slide is racked back or forth, perfect +. Most importantly: Its a shooter. I put a few mags though it with no failure at all. Perfect too. I took a 1.5'' guarantee Baer with me to compare groups. Set up around 10-15 yards shooting standing 2 handed. Did not have time to do my proper tests resting from a bag etc but still: The A2 shoots a bit high and left, that could be the arched mainspring housing and the trigger I need to get used to. The Baer: I was convinced to be able to get a better group but I could not. The A2 was noticeably better in shooting smaller groups (Pic 3 and 4). The Baer shows the larger group but centered (Pic 5), I repeated that a few times a d got the same group every time. I emptied a few more mags with the A2 and the group stayed the same too. Due to the carbon steel I think this is a workhorse and it does not come across as a budget gun in an respect. I paid $1160 for this gun and I have to say: If you find one you got to grab it. I'll run it through the paces at the next USPSA and going to have fun with this one for sure. Got already an old walnut oil triple K holster for it.
