And, it's a chunk, 42 oz for the 4.25"

I knew they were going to bring it back eventually... $1499 seems to be on the inexpensive side for a revolver of that stature, which suggests they've completely redesigned the action to make it modern production line compatible.

The question is: will it live up to reputation of its namesake predecessors? The new Cobra and King Cobra did not in my opinion.

I'm hitting the stores tomorrow. Will buy both lengths if I can. There is a lot of excitement about the new Python. S&W can capture some excitement too if they would get rid of the locks on their revolvers. As of now, I am buying Colts.

It does look good and priced reasonably. I wonder if it’s reworked internally to be put together by basic assembly line or a craftsman. I haven’t found much information on how newer colts are made though and wonder if you’re just buying a name. I still like that they are bringing it back though. I’ve never had a colt revolver and the old ones I’ve handled were pretty wore and loose. None were pythons though. The prices I’ve seen on the new cobras locally seemed pretty high to me. Still I’d like to try and get one. Maybe.

Well, I'll have to see one in person of course, but I think I want one. I like the new Cobra I've got well enough that's it's my EDC now.

I had a Python a few years ago, back when you could buy one for less than a grand, and I liked it. I don't know if it was any better than anything else, but then I didn't expect it to be. I just wanted a Python. Then like a lot of other guns I had I had to sell it when I was out of work for a couple of years. I never thought I'd get another one.

Maybe now I will.

I definitely think the new Colt's are great . I only have one Colt , an old model trooper 357 , before the MK III's . I really like the looks of the new King Cobra and am really happy to see the Python being made again . I'm a Smith guy , but can enjoy Colts as well . That 3" King Cobra has really caught my eye . People moan and groan about , " well it's not like the old Colts " . Maybe that is a good thing ! Regards, Paul

Looks great! From reviews, sounds great! Likely same song and dance from Colt folks as w/ us S&W folks regarding old/new, changes, etc. Reality, looks like Colt has made a very good move. Looked at several of the new Colt revolvers yesterday afternoon. There is a whole lot to like about them! Same stacking DA trigger as always. SA trigger was very nice. Expect that the mechanics will be more durable than was the case with older Colts. As good ... better? We'll see! We'll see!. Sincerely. bruce.

applied the new manufacturing technics to make a
better Python.

This New Python sounds better, it is more what I would
like to purchase, and is at a price point I can easily afford.
I won't have to look at those High Priced Museum Pieces
any more. Out with the Old in with the New, only in America.

I will have to see how this plays out. This is Great for
Revolver Connoisseur's.

I've had Pythons over the years and traded them away when they brought 2 to 3 times what I paid for them. I kept one NIB example and it remains unfired.

I haven't bought a new revolver (as in current production) in years, but if this one is as good in person as the hype, I'm a buyer.

And it's gonna' get shot, not put up as a safe queen!

I believe it will. I know a lot of old guard Colt fans, will be shaking their fists at the sky and yelling it wont because they are so heavily invested in them but I think the reality is that they are going to slide down to mere mortal mans pricing

ETA: it has been speculated for the last decade that the python market was overinflated and going to pop at some point. This may bring it on

A python that doesn't stack?
That was always the Achille's heel for me.

I'm very encouraged by that shootin' video about these new guns. The actions appear great and made more efficiently than then older guns, and they look perfect. I bought a stainless Python in 1999 after it sat in the pawn shop for a year. I don't like stainless but finallly went for it only to find it's actually electroless nickel/Coltguard. But I still always liked S&Ws better and was concerned with eventual wear on this gun.
It appears Colt lived up to the hopes of shooters wanted a semi affordable Python. but not here in California, or MA., and another state, unfortunately.

Count me in.
Had a 70s built Python stolen and have regretted for years not replacing it.
Never considered spending $1600 for hand gun, but I have a few guns that just sit in the safe that could be easily turned over to make the Python purchase doable for me.

According to a guy on the 1911 Addicts forum that already has one of each in his possession the new action is better than the original and he's a self professed "Python guy" having several originals.

If they action works well, the only other thing I'd like to see is that old Colt blue. Maybe that IS too much to ask for....

As much as I like the look, fit and finish of the old Colts, I like the Smith's action more. Particularly in double action, the Smith is the better trigger. It's easier to shoot fast in DA shooting with the Smith.

I am curious as to what Colt has come up with with this new Python. I definitely want to check it out.

Doubt we will see the hand polishing needed for the Royal Blue finish on a blue version, but maybe at a much higher MSRP. Sounds like there will be less timing issues with use also, based on the new manufacturing process.

It's good to see Colt back in the full-size revolver game. Barring any mechanical issues I expect they will sell a ton of them, and if they are as good as reported the values of older non-pristine Pythons will drop.

The best thing about the new Python? They're not relegated to be safe queens. We can shoot them. The worst? Those who thought their old Python was a mini 401k just took a big hit.

I may have to take back my no new guns pledge if the produce a 2 1/2 or 3 inch.

I doubt seriously that the value of the original Python will be negatively impacted. The values of older Model 19's, 27's, and 29's did not go down as S&W introduced updated versions. I'll be hanging out at my local shops to see if I can handle one of these new Pythons. The elimination of 14 internal parts and a thicker top strap will certainly aid the Python in terms of durability and the use of MIM and CNC machining will make for consistent trigger actions.

Sportsman’s Warehouse has both the 4” and 6” Python listed at $1,499.99 though both are currently showing “out of stock”.

Actually the 4” is 4.25”. I believe that’s so it can be sold in Canada as they have a minimum barrel length for revolvers that is just over 4”.

I’ve got a blued, 6” Python. I don’t see adding a new one in either 6” or 4.25” but a 3” or 2.5” would get my money in a New York minute.

I'm stoked for this new Python. I'll be hitting my favorite haunts tomorrow to get on a list for either the 4 or 6 inch version.

Looks like some folks are getting them now for $1325, which is pretty dang good.

I'm glad for Colt. After shooting themselves in the foot for years they finally pulled off what looks like a winner.

Colt put 12,000 rounds of full power .357 through this version, with no discernible wear. They didn't do that with the old Python.

I hope S&W takes notice. While the new "classic" Smiths didn't really affect the prices of real classic Smiths, I think this new Colt will cause the prices of older Pythons to take a dive. They look good (which you can't say about the new Smiths) and they are probably better shooters. I've had 3 Pythons, and the action wasn't great on any of them. If Smith would drop the lock and get back to the looks and quality of the old guns they could compete.

I know - "Smith will never drop the lock." Six months ago the same people said Colt would never make another Python.

This is a good, good thing. I'm happy for Colt. They will sell boxcar loads of these.

The value of the older smiths didn't go down very likely due to the fact of side locks and if I'm not mistaken sleeved barrels on some the classic remakes. That alone turns me off to what I would otherwise be buying many of instead of searching out and buying the vintage ones instead.

Nice to see a remake of a classic revolver that actually looks like the original. And this new Python has everything you need in a revolver and nothing you don't.

I will be placing my order for the 4.25 inch Python when I get to work tomorrow morning. Its been 20 years since I was looking forward to buying a brand new revolver. I can't wait to get and shoot the new Python. Regards 18DAI

The gun proudly wears a QR bar code. This is a great new feature. You can download an app on your phone that can “scan” these codes and it will often bring up user manuals, videos, and other resources.

notches. This tells me the gun is designed
for fast double action shooting.

Glad Hackathorn mentioned that in DA
shooting the finger must come a bit
off the trigger to allow it to reset. In
Smiths, especially with the heavy trigger
return springs so many curse, the finger
can ride the trigger.

The new Python will not lead to devaluation of the old, original ones, but may stabilize the market. Bottom line is that the old ones are desirable because they are the "original" and will never be made again, and what's out there now is all that will ever be. For those who have become interested in them in the last 10 years or so and simply can't or won't pay three grand on average, this simply opens the possibility of owning a reasonable facsimile. No one who owns an original in 2020 is going to sell it at a discount so they can pick up a new one.

I may be one of those otherwise priced out of the classic Python market who'd consider one once the feeding frenzy ends, or better, a used one down the road from someone who's rethought that $1,500 expenditure on a gun that's in no way going to be "worth" twice as much or more than a 686 or GP100. But even at $1,500 it's doable, especially figuring a trade or sale of something in the safe, as opposed to at the very least $2,500 for a decent shooter, which is just ridiculous to me. YMMV.

I have never owned a Python . I did buy an OM Trooper in 357 , 4" last yr for $475 . It's built on the same frame as a Python and has the same internals . It lacks the fancy barrel and the lustrous finish . It was in really great shape , LNIB . It dated back to " 67 " . It's a keeper , especially for the price . The new Pythons , yes I would probably love to have one as well . Make mine the 4.25" barrel in stainless . Regards, Paul
