I've never made a secret of the fact that my first loves in handguns have always been S&W revolvers and 1911s. However, in the category of DA/SA semi-autos, my preference runs to Sig Sauer. More specifically, the older all metal Sigs preferably made in Germany. Honestly, the newer plastic Sigs do nothing for me and I have no interest in them. I currently own four.



As you can see, I have a liking for the Hogue smooth wooden grips. I'm also a big fan of the Short Reset Trigger kit (SRT) and all my guns have them.

I actually traded my way into the P239. Wasn't sure if I was gonna keep it. But all it took was one trip to the range to convince me that its a keeper.

I got my first P220 back in 1977. What a great gun. I had actually bought it for my Father as a carry gun at his Auto Repair shop. When I went to break it in, I was astounded by it's accuracy and handling. I told him he could not have it and he would have to go buy another one. I still own it today. It is in the lower right corner of this old P220 group photo and it is wearing smooth Hogue Goncalo Alves grips. I only stopped carrying it when SIG began to dovetail the front sights. The one in the upper left corner wearing Hogue smooth Brazilian Rosewood is the P220 that replaced it. (I wanted Tritium)

Then one day I got lucky and stumbled upon a SIG P220 Sport. WOW what a gun. It is wearing Nills grips that were produced for the Texas Rangers that I added after purchasing the pistol.

I am a BIG fan of the 357SIG cartridge. In the mid 90s while I was working out in Dallas County I had some great interaction with the cartridge and firearm testing

The P229 is a great platform for the 357SIG. Here are all four variations of the stainless steel framed P229s that were produced WITHOUT and equipment rail

The EQUINOX treatment was developed for the P22 with a rail, I managed to get one without a rail as well. The no-rail gun has both a LaserMax internal laser and Tritium night sights

The P239s and the 357SIG cartridge are a wonderful combination. If you have never shot a P239, borrow one. They are reliable and fantastically accurate. The one with the 405- printed on it is my Texas DPS P239

I am not a big fan of the 9MM but I have a few for suppressed shooting and a couple for target shooting including the colorful ones

And to wrap this up, I was able to get my hands on one of the P226 pistols embelished to commerate the 25th Anniversary of the P226.

Edit: Forgot all about my SHTF gun a ..... a Sig 229 with both .40 and .357 sig barrels... half a dozen mags....

My first Sig was a German police surplus P6 (P225 single-stack 9mm DA-SA). Excellent pistol for very little money, back in the late 1990's (think I paid about $240 for it at the time).

Next Sig was a P230 compact .380, alloy frame. Very compact, very lightweight, very easy to shoot well. That, and the later P232, will make a very effective personal defense handgun.

Picked up a P220 on a trade. Being an old 1911 shooter, it seems excessively bulky to me, and it went away soon after. Great pistol, but not for my personal needs.

About 14 months ago I caught a deal on a Sig "red box" (factory overhauled police trade-in gun) P229 in .40S&W, standard DA-SA-decocker. Compact version of the P226, 12-round standard mag capacity. After nearly a year of medical issues (strong arm surgeries at wrist and elbow, physical therapy, then cataract surgeries in both eyes) I am finally getting well acquainted with this one. Excellent pistol overall! A bit bulky, but not excessively so. Enough weight to handle the recoil easily. Excellent DA trigger pull and a fine SA trigger. Decocker is 100% reliable and becomes intuitive with a bit of familiarization and practice. MSRP when I purchased this one was $1087, and I got it delivered for just under $400 with box, papers, two mags, and one-year factory warranty. I now have about 350 rounds through it including factory (CCI 165FMJ, Winchester 180FMJ, Remington 180JHP Golden Sabre) and handloads (180 hard cast lead and 180FMJ). All functions are 100%. Pistol shoots consistently to point of aim at the 50-foot indoor range near my home.

Not ready to give up my 1911's or my S&W revolvers, but this P229 is quickly earning a place around my house.

Only got one Sig. And it's kind of old.

Love Sig p series pistols. I've owned several P6's, and 226's. All have been great performers. My father in law has taken to them and began his small collection so I have left that to him for a while and pursued other firearms. Like every good cycle I'm sure they will come back around into vogue!

I think the P series in general is basically one of the best combat handguns you could own period. Right along side the 1911.

Technically, these are the only true SIG pistols. SIG literally means:
Schweizerische Industrie Gesellschaft

The Swiss only made one pistol at the SIG Neuhausen facility, the P210, originally called the SP 47/8 (service pistol of 1947, 8 shots).

The German and US made ones are a licensed product not made by Schweizerische Industrie Gesellschaft in Switzerland.

But, that's admittedly being "fussy"!
P220, P226, etc are all pretty cool, and still a good value market-wise.

I like the P220.

Pretty big for a carry gun, though. Not sure why they didn’t offer it from the start with a shorter barrel and maybe grip frame.

I am fairly new to the SIG family but can say my P320 xcarry and my P365 are both highly accurate firearms.

Sigs are nice guns. I've shot a few, a P220 in .45ACP, a P228 in 9mm, and a P229 in 9mm.

Back when I was looking at getting my first handgun, it was between the P220 and a Beretta 92FS. I tried examples of each at a rental range. While the P220 was nice, it just didn't feel right in my hand, I think it was the front-to-back distance of the grip frame. I got the 92, which I still have.

I can't really remember my impressions of the shooting the P228. I remember liking it, but I shot it side-by-side with a 4" Model 10 with magna grips and I shot the revolver better.

Then last year when I was looking at getting a new 9mm carry gun, I rented a P229 and shot it side-by-side with a Beretta PX4 Compact. While I shot the P229 well, and it felt good in my hands, something about the trigger wasn't to my liking, not really sure what it was. I ended up buying the PX4.

At one point the P239 was at the top of my list of compact semi-autos I wanted. I came close to buying a P239 SAS DAK in .40S&W when they first came out, but for the price I could get a Gen 3 Glock 23, a bunch of mags, ammo, and carry gear, which is what I did. And last year, when I was trying different 9mms at rental ranges, I had planned on trying a P239. I was a little hesitant because it was out-of-production by that time, but after trying the PX4 I just went with that one.

I really wanted to try a Sig P250 Compact, too, but it was also out-of-production and I wasn't crazy about the proprietary rear sight.

I've never seriously considered carrying a 1911 for self defense, but I had thought the Sig Traditional Compact 1911 was about as close to an ideal carry 1911 for me as I was going to get without extensive custom work. It, too, was discontinued.

As much as I like Sigs and can appreciate their form and function, it just seems like we are just not meant to be...*sigh*

I like Metal-framed & Hammer-fired DA/SA pistols, and Red Dots. My SIG P229 Legion RX is a favorite among my CZ 75's and 3rd Gen SW's (3913NL & CS9).
Coming up on 2nd Birthday and 10,000 rounds....weighing in at 32oz for a 15 round middleweight bout.

I've had only two Sigs, a 9mm P226 bought new in the late '80s and a new P220 .45 ACP bought about twenty years ago. Without getting them out of my safe to examine, I really don't know if they are all steel or alloy framed. Both have been fired considerably, almost exclusively with my own cast bullets.

I've had a number of 9mm and .45 ACP pistols and still have a few, but the Sigs remain more accurate than all the rest.

I had 3rd Gen 3900 series pistols first, then found a 239. I had a 226 years ago, but it was just too big for my hand. I really like single stack 9s. Even stagger 40s are good, but I just am not a 40 fan.

I bought a used 239, then grabbed a NIB Tactical version when the 239 was discontinued. Unfortunately, at $525 a pop, I only bought one - should have bought more, as the LGS was blowing them out. My thought was that I might suppress it, so I was fine with the threaded barrel. But in a rare moment of brilliance, I went directly online and picked up a new factory 9mm barrel. Here again, I should have bought a few...

The early BDA (Browning Double Action) are the only ones with polished slides. I like them because they have three big gun manufacturers (Browning, Sig and Sauer) on it.

Im in the same boat as you.... Got a few S&W but the quality and shoot ability of older sig pistols cant be beat. Got a P6??? Police issue like 12 years ago...shoots perfect, need to buy a 226 asap but ..well.. hummm... really cant justify the buy.

In 2015 never thinking I'd be able to afford any SIG, the FBI said 9mm's
are "soup du jour", dumping their 40 S&W's. Service pistols in 40 S&W
flooded the market because everyone thinks, "the FBI knows what they
are talking about". I saw 226's and 229's well under $350.00.

Remembering and missing the boat when cop shops dumped revolvers
for semi autos, I started SIG hunting.

Now I have a small battery of 229's and a lone 226, all in 40 S&W. All
are police trades. The 226 also has a.357 SIG barrel and all will get EFK
Fire Dragon 9mm barrels this year.

Total cost so far is just under $1700.00. With the Fire Dragons that'll jump
to an outlay of about $2600.00.

I just wish I had the cash when the 66's, 19's, Lawmen and Pythons were
retired. I wouldn't be wealthy but I'd have a lot more toys. Yeah I know
these are a bunch of beaters, but they are my beaters!

I understand that Sigs are of the highest quality, but there are just too many S&W's that I want to see my way to Sigs yet,. Some nice looking guns on this thread. May they serve ya'll well.

There's some very nice Police trade-in and LGS 'overstocks' or 'Red Box' in 40S&W going for short $ these days. I've personally never been a fan of 40 S&W and every time I'm tempted by the bargain price; I have to remember the ammo cost savings from 40 S&W to 9mm would pay for a nice brand new 9mm pistol every 7-10k rounds. And I shoot enough ammo that's 1-2 'free' pistols per year.
Yeah, I know..... if I reloaded it would be different; but I'd rather be shoot'in than reloading. But for fans of the 40 S&W it's bargain time right now.

I guess I'd qualify as somewhat of a SIG fan too. Quite a few have passed through my hands since the mid '80s, carried one every working day for several years,etc. At one time or another had examples of most of the major metal framed model lines and calibers. Still have a few, and attached a photo of most, all in 9MM now.

Yep,count me in as a Sig fan as well. Only two though. One is a West German P6 I bought at a local gun show. The other was store bought and is a P239 in S&W 40 caliber. Both have helped me qualify for any number of years and for a Louisiana Carry permit. Was ready to get another P239 in 9mm when I found out that the line was cancelled. Then Browning cancelled the High Power line of pistols. Bummer twice in one year. Frank

I am also a big Sig fan, I used to own every Sig from the P220 to 239. My first Sig was a 229, I got it when it first hit the market circa 1994 - it was the first pistol engineered and built around the new .40 S&W, all others were converted 9mms. I carried it for the last 20+ years of my career. At some point I swapped the original black slide and controls with nickel ones from a buddy’s P229; because I liked the two-tone look and he didn’t, it’s the only remaining Sig in my safe. I considered buying one of the 10mms when they first came out, but never warmed up to the look and feel of the current Sigs; the P210 also never did any thing for me.

The wood (Pau Ferro) grips were added after I retired, got em from Patrick Hogue at a SHOT Show a few years ago. For duty carry I preferred the original plastic grips, but the wood really looks nice. Somewhere along the way I picked up a factory .357 Sig barrel for her.

p.s. I do want a P220 in .38 Super with the newer style mag release, not the one on the heal.

Lots of love for the compact Smith 3rd Gen .45s on the Forum.

I switched to the 245 in a "Goldilocks" moment..... my 4516 was too heavy.... my early 4513 had the short grip frame and I could't find enough magazines to make me happy.....

then Sig introduced the compact 245; alloy frame. 3.9" barrel and 6+1 and lots of magazines available....... and I liked the Sig decocker only for carry.................

While I'd had my 220 for a few years the smaller 245 was just right for weekend and winter concealed carry

I only have four and two of those are twins. Some of the finest fightn' guns ever made.

I gave up looking for one after years of searching. A local shop had one that looked like it had been dragged behind a car for a few miles and they wanted more for it than they sold for new I think. I'll pick one up someday when a good deal comes along.

A 229 I bought at an auction is still a favorite. I paid $310 OTD. So I bought Sig Legion X-ray sights, and a short reset trigger. It is a great shooter for under $600. I bought an MPX pistol that became a suppressed SBR with a Sig Romeo sight, and various other parts. Next up was a PM400 Scorpion pistol in .300 Black. Finally, I have the M17 P320 and an Xcarry 320 in 9mm. If I could keep only one, it would be the MPX. Reminds me a lot of the old MP5.

At one time I had eight. Now just down to a 1992 P220 and a 1990 P228.



FWIW the 225/P6 was the best fitting pistol for my hand I ever held. The 239 at the bottom left was one of only 50 and imported to the US from W Germany.

I have always loved Sigs, but it took them coming out with the P229 before I took the leap. I have had a 229 since they first came on the market. I traded the first one off for something I thought I wanted more. The 2nd one was stolen, but I still have the 3rd one which I have had for over 10 years. It too is an early German frame gun w/o the stupid rail. I also have a 357 Sig barrel.

IMHO the 229 is the finest fighting hand gun ever made.

I'll add one last one - 1911 style in 38 Super.

My everyday carry is a Sig P239 SAS. I also have the Hogue smooth grips. Love the handgun but annoyed that it was discontinued and magazines aren't easy to find. If you do find them, they're not cheap. I think my next gun will be a Sig P226 Legion Rx.

In order of acquisition a German 226, German 220/45, 239/357 sig, another 239/357 came as a .40, and a Scorpion Elite 226 9mm. Sig isn't my favorite brand but neither is Glock but I love all of them.

Edit: I thought there was one more. An American 220/45. I bought it and the Scorpion Elite 226 to put my German models away for posterity.
