Default Anybody familiar with Accutek?

I was cruising a local gun show today and a dealer had some accutek .380 pistols brand new for $220. Obviously it isn't a SIG 238 but it might be worth it for a low-bucks bullet launcher. Anybody know anything about them? at the same dealer in their store and not at the show they were about $50 more.

Sounds like they must be accurate and technically advanced...

I believe they are one of those brands that just isn't worth bothering with, like Lorcin or Jiminez.

I don't know that I agree Tom K. I have a Lorcin that makes an outstanding paperweight, especially if the magazine is full. Even with the ceiling fan going full blast the papers stay put under it.

All I know is what I've heard so take this for what it's worth...

A few years ago I was considering buying an Accutek AT-380, which is basically a bargain basement Walther PPK. They looked pretty good for the price, and I figured it would be hard to screw up a design as old as the PPK which has already been copied six ways to Sunday by just about everyone, and by all accounts is reliable in even the cheapest Chinese-made clones, so I began researching it.

Unfortunately, what I found was less than encouraging... Although it was a PPK clone inside and out, several cost-saving measures which came at the expense of reliability and function were implemented. First and foremost, the Accutek AT-380 is SAO, whereas the PPK and pretty much every other clone/derivative thereof is DA/SA. Next, the hinged trigger guard which also serves as a sort of takedown lever is held in place by a screw on the AT-380, whereas it's held in the upright position with a spring on the PPK, ergo you have to remove the screw to takedown the AT-380 rather than simply pulling it down and resting it on the frame on the PPK. In addition, the screw can come loose under recoil which can cause damage to the gun, causing it to lock up, or potentially injure the shooter. Last but not least, according to multiple reviews I've read, the AT-380 is covered in razor-sharp edges which will cut you under recoil if you don't smooth them out yourself, and basically won't feed anything but FMJ.

So ultimately, I lost all interest on account of the fact that there are tons of high quality yet low-priced military surplus clones/derivates of the Walther PP Series on the market available at equal or lower prices than the AT-380 such as the FEG PA-63, SMC/PMK-380, Baikal IJ-70, Makarov PM, and Wanad P-64, just to name a few. Not to mention brand new derivatives such as the Bersa Thunder/Firestorm 380.
I once saw a pristine FEG PA-63 at my LGS for a mere $150 and to this day I kick myself for not buying it. The FEG clones are top notch, which is evidenced by the fact that for a time Walther had FEG producing a PPK variant known as the PPK/E under license for them.

Junk pistols, in the same vein as Lorcin, Jennings, Bryco, etc. Given their very spotty reputation for quality and reliability, if I had to choose between these and a derringer, I'd take the derringer.
