Default Pinto Remington Nylon 66

Several years ago I bought a Mohawk Brown 66 from my oldest and best friend. He was the last of his family to own a lumberyard in a small town. The yard had been in business for over 150 years. A guy came in one day with guns to sell and my friend bought them all. I bought the 66 from him. I have plinked with it for several years without any problems.

I gave it to a friend who likes cleaning guns and he informed me the barrel had a bulge which was hidden by the stock. I found a chrome barrel on GB from the Apache Black version and bought it.

I now have a one of a kind brown stock with a chrome barrel 66. I look forward to shooting it with the new barrel. It was pretty accurate with the old one.

My Mohawk brown fell out of a locker cabinet onto a slab and the stock snapped in half. Not a hard fall, so it really shocked me. I found an Apache black stock on Ebay, so swapped it out. So I have a bruise, an Apache black and blue model!

The Remington 10C Mohawk is very similar to the 66, except it has a removable 5 or 10 shot box magazine instead of a tubular magazine in the buttstock. For awhile, I have wanted one of the Remington Nylon rifles to play with, and ran across a fairly nice condition 10C about 2 years ago for $125. It has proven to be very dependable and accurate, and will produce groups off the bench as tight as any of my other .22 non-target grade rifles. But the 10-shot removable magazine is a bit clumsy to carry around as it sticks out so far. There used to be a good website largely devoted to the Remington Nylon .22s (not all were semiautos), may still be one, but I haven't been on it in awhile. BTW, there are scope mounts available which will clamp onto the the top of the metal part of the receiver. Look on eBay. I have an old Weaver 1" K2.5 on my 10C.

Those old vintage 22s that Remington mfg’d in a handful of color schemes are so cool...and folks pay up for them these days.

Those stocks were guaranteed for life by Remington. 25 years after I bought mine in 1968 my 66 developed a hairline crack at the wrist. I sent it in to Remington, and they not only replaced the stock but refurbished the whole, well-worn rifle to factory-new condition, free of charge.
