My Newest S&W is not a S&W

Besides the modern guns I really enjoy shooting the classics from the old West. I have two Uberti Cattleman (repro Colt SAA's), both in .45 Colt, one a 4 5/8" and one a 7 1/2". I bought the 4 5/8" gun new in about 1988 and the 7 1/2" gun used about two years after. I wore both on and off during my farming years during the 90's. I had an Uberti No 3 Russian clone in .44 Russian that I sold during the divorce sell off 8 years ago. I always wanted a Schofield but never really found the right opportunity. I kind of limited myself in that I wanted a 5" No 3 Schofield in .38 Special, a cartridge that I love to shoot and is very cheap compared to .45 Colt, 44-40 and .44 Russian.

I had been searching on GB for one of these but the pickings were slim and the ones that were there usually had hideous roll marks from the various importers, Navy Arms, Stoger, etc., and warnings that really detracted from the firearms appearance.

When my fiancé told me that she had booked us a room at a bed and breakfast in Fredericksburg Texas(my hunt lease is about 40 miles from Fredericksburg and we have been there a few times but never stayed there) for the first couple of days after January 1st to unwind and relax after the holidays I knew what I was going to do. They are kind of the supplier and mecca for SASS shooters, great store if you are into old West gear and shooting.

We drove up to Fredericksburg last Thursday, checked into the Inn, had dinner and relaxed. On Friday morning we went to the National Museum of The Pacific War, which is located in Fredericksburg, Experience History | National Museum of the Pacific War
This is an absolutely fantastic museum! Very, very well done! The ticket that you buy is good for two days, that is really the time that you can spend there! We left the Museum about 2:30 and had lunch and after walked a couple of blocks to Texas Jack's for my Schofield. It is a good sized store with a lot of new and old West clothes and accessories and they are a gun shop with modern weapons along with just about any old West style firearm that you would want.

That had the Uberti/Cimarron Arms 5" No 3 Schofield in .38 Special that I wanted and I bought it. These are very elegant, very Victorian guns! Also very heavy for a .38, much heavier then my .45 4 5/8" Uberti Colt SAA! I am looking forward to shooting it, there should be no recoil. Now I will be looking at spending a few hundred for a rig, always something.

Congratulations! Very nice.

I have one in .45 Colt and really like it. I've mentioned before that my slightly arthritic hands just don't get along with the standard Colt style SAA revolvers. But no problems at all with the Schofield. Its the only single action revolver I currently own.

I took my new Schofield to my range yesterday and shot 100 rounds out of it , a mix of PPU 158 grain LRN and Fiocchi 148 grain wadcutters. There were no issues, no open latching when firing, 100% cartridge ignition, pure shooting fun!

Now it did shoot low, but once I raised the front sight up above the rear and found where it wanted to shoot all was good. I was shooting at about 15 yards. Very pleasant revolver to shoot, I will be bringing it to the range often. The wadcutters were especially mild in the heavy Schofield.

I also got to shoot my new Walther Q4 TAC M2, very happy with that!
