return of an old friend
I traded this Colt Gov't model off about 10 years ago and have missed it ever since. (moment of weakness) it was made in 1951 and built as a bullseye pistol in 1966 by a gunsmith in KCMO. I bought it in 1996 in Leavenworth, KS from the gentleman who had the work done and shot it in competitions for 30 years. today in the LGS the owner's son pulled it out of a rug and asked me what I thought about it. I told him I thought it was made in 1951 and built up in 1966. his eyes got all wide and asked me how the heck I knew that. then I told him I used to own it. he asked if I wanted to own it again and we came to a quick agreement. it's back home to stay. lee

You don’t get those second chances very often, and you got a good one. You made a wise decision!

Great find and reacquisition!! I own one very similar but, mine was originally produced in 1949 and belonged to a three gun competitor from Oak Ridge, TN.
When I acquired the Colt, it had about 88% bluing and was well used. I sent it to Walter Birdsong for his "Black Tea" finish, changed out the original grips for a set of VZ's and up graded the recoil spring. It still shoots great!
Looks like your rear sight, like mine, is a Mirco adjustable sight.

That story needed to be told. Thank you for that.
There is hope for all of us who have sold so many that should have never gotten away.
And, certainly, congratulations!!

Good for you.
Now, if I could only get my old Colt 4" Python to come home.
I sold it in '74 to finance my honeymoon.

Great story! There's a couple out there that I would like a second chance at, probably never happen. Hope you get many years of pleasure from yours.
