Strange I have only one S&W revo wearing wood. (Ahrends on a 2.5” M19 that look great and feel great too.). All my other wheelies wear rubber of one brand or another. I just prefer how they feel, especially when shooting. I don’t worry about what anyone else wants to see on my guns. I’ve already angered most purists by admitting I don’t like square butt frames on my J’s and K’s. (Blasphemy!)

I have them on most of my 1911's and all of my Smith revolvers. I have small hands and they fit me better.

Hogue Tamer grips are great on my Ruger Alaskan the Pachs on my 1911[s]. I mistyped earlier in this thread when I alluded to pachs on my revolvers. I have some but prefer the Hogues for general revolver use. Now if I were to carry a revolver concealed then Pachmayr grips might get the nod, their rubber is generally denser & less tacky than the Hogues.
I think it depends on the application but both have their strong points. I will say in general the older pachmayrs seem to be better than the newer ones., U can find them on Ebay usually. NOS or used. To conclude, almost all pachs for revolvers have some degree of 'wiggle' fore and aft along with sometimes dicey seams that may or may not meet flush when the grips come together...it's not a deal breaker., some fit tighter & better than others., now if you are OCD then all bets are off. That wiggle factor will likely drive U insane.

I like them on certain guns, some guns just look and function really better with them. If anybody has a set for a S&W 10xx or 45xx series auto and wants to sell them contact me.

I’ve had all kinds of Pacmyars on revolvers both Ruger’s and Smith and Wesson and have found them to be satisfactory. But I much prefer the old Uncle Mike’s to the Pac’s They fit my old Model 10-6 and 686-1 much better with no gap. Mostly I like them because they seem to fit my hand much better. I just wish I had a pair for my Model 27 but I’ve never seen a pair for an N-frame. Maybe they didn’t make any.

Have a RB N and L frame with Hogue rubber conversion grips, no finger bumps. Favorite grips. Bought a 66 with Pach's on it and ordered a Hogue rubber. Unfortunately, Hogue doesn't do SB grips without finger bumps.
Nothing wrong with Pach's, they work. Didn't care for the square edges on the one's the 66 came with.

All of this talk of rubber grips reminds me of the first handgun I ever shot, a Model 64 with Presentation grips. It was my grandfather's service revolver. I asked him what happened to the original wood grips, and he told me when they were issued those 64s, they all threw away the service stocks and replaced them with the Pachmayrs. While I understand the need for a better grip, it kills me to see how much vintage factory wood grips are worth today!

Pachmayrs are responsible for filling up the buckets of factory wood stocks that were for sale at every gun shop for years. The pre medallion versions which were made in California are the best examples. The later ones made in Mexico with the bronze medallions are not as firm and cheaply made. The two piece originals can still be bought on eBay old stock new in box .

Lov'd your comment "no such thing as a bad color on a good horse" Can I borrow it to re-use? Truer words were never spoken.

On the subject of Pachmyrs, I love the older ones with no logo on the outside. I haunt the gun shows looking for them in several configurations.
The small presentations are the only N frame grip for older guns that fit my small hands. I have had trouble getting the current production ones to fit the gun properly.
