Default It took seven years, but...

...I finally found a Beretta Model 71! One that was for sale at a reasonable price, an all original example (not one of the many CAI imports with fake surpressors), and most importantly, it was not already earmarked for someone else.

Around about 7 years ago, I had my hands on a Model 71 in a local pawn shop. At the time I was unfamiliar with the gun, its quality and reliability, or its supposed ties to the Israelli Mossad, so I had opted to think on the purchase that day. After consulting with a trusted friend, I hurried back the next day after work, but it was gone by then. Since then, I've been on the hunt.

My example was proofed in 1967, just prior the enactment of the 1968 GCA. It came from an estate collection sold to my favorite LGS earlier this week. Condition is good, with an appropriate amount if wear and tear. I imagine she must have been a regular at the range for her former owner, as she is a wonderful and accurate shooter!

For those who curious, the Model 71 in 22LR supposedly has ties to the Mossad and Israelli Sky Marshals, having been a favorite tool for assassination, and for security on aircraft where overpenatration is a concern. There's a few stories around the net of their use in both roles, though it should be noted that many of the stories attribute the Model 70 instead of the 71, though this cannot be correct as the 70 was never available in 22LR, and the later 70S was released much later than the story dates. All in all though, I'm fascinated by the history, but the gun's accuracy and reliability is what excites me.the most.

Have one like yours with the cross bolt safety and one with the traditional thumb safety. LOVE THEM! Wish the mags were more plentiful or a reputable company like MEC GAR made reproductions.

According to "The Spy Who Came In From The Cold", the Mossad had engineers that manufactured/modified magazines for 10 rounds! Maybe they have some extra's.
