Default CZ SP-01 Tactical

I came across a lightly used CZ SP-01 Tactical at a gun show last weekend, and took it home for $450.

I'm not a fan of pistols with rails, and the SP-01 Tactical loses the nice lines of the CZ 75 and adds a bit of unnecessary weight. I'm also not a big fan of the 18 round magazines with the overly large base plate, but regular 16 round CZ 75 magazines work just fine and make a lot more sense for concealed carry.

That steel frame, extra metal and high capacity magazine push it up to 48 oz loaded, however, it's comfortable to carry IWB in a decent holster with a proper belt.

It turns out that it also shoots very well.

I grabbed some handloaded 115 gr HAPs and 115 gr XTPs, both using 6.6 grains of Power Pistol. I found that it shot to point of aim at 25 yards and on a rest gave a very credible 2" 10 shot group (excluding the two fliers which are probably my fault):

Velocity wise the 115 gr HAPs averaged 1209 fps and the 115 gr XTPs averaged an essentially identical 1204 fps. At that velocity, the 115 gr XTP offers excellent, reliable expansion and optimum penetration.

$450? Very nice.
I have one in 40, super easy pistol to shoot well. It’s my only rail gun so it doesn’t get carried much.

CZ are very under rated pistols.

I like the CZ 75 based pistols in large part because they, along with the Browning Hi Power (and it's derivatives) are the only double stack high capacity 9mm pistols that fit my hand well.

At this point I have the CZ SP-01, a CZ 75B, a CZ 75 Compact and a CZ 75 D RAMI, and a Kadet .22 LR conversion kit.

Nice catch at a great price. CZ’s are excellent pistols as were a bunch of Brno CZ products I have owned. Had a CZ 75 but wanted more accuracy so instead of putting money into it I bought a Tactical Sport. Test target was about an inch at 25 yds. Fun gun. Bam Bam, hows the Kadet shooting?. Larry

You have IMO a great pistol at a great price. I have long been an admirer and owner of CZ’s. This past year I added a stainless 75b and a 01 Phantom to the inventory. The Phantom with a Streamlight rail mounted light has become my “bump in the night” gun.
Going to the range in about an hour and a couple of the CZ’s are in the range bag. Enjoy your new pistol.

I love CZ's in general. I have purchased a P10-C that in my opinion is better in almost every respect than Glocks. Better trigger out of the box, better ergo and fully ambi for us lefties. also own a CGW Pro Package P-01 omega, same size as a Glock 19 SA/DA that is just plain sweet and a recently acquired 75SA which they no longer make. That also has an ambi safety. A little heavy for carry but since I have carried a 1911 or BHP for years it is no problemo!
