Firearms Auction Questions
We have a number of long guns and hand guns to sell.
Considering using an auction sight
I can drive the firearms to Kull's Old Town in Topeka, Kansas
Any experience with Kull's? Others???

Kull's is excellent. It was originally the site owned by our Jim Supica, the author of the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson. I have bought a few times from them and was handled very business like. I haven't sold through them and do not know what their fee is. Most are usually in the 15% range.

I have a friend who is an auctioneer and he conducts auctions of all types of items, including firearms. He partners with a nationwide site to advertise his auctions and it is very effective.
An on line auction, conducted by a reputable auctioneer is an effective way to dispose of firearms and collections, large and small. Here are a few things you will want to obtain information about:
1. Auctioneer's fees, expenses, buyers premium and shipping charges;
2. Photographs and complete, accurate descriptions of the firearms;
3. Pre auction sale view for potential local bidders;
4. Auction with or without reserve. Most are without reserve and
effective;
5. Make certain that the auctioneer has a current, valid FFL or and FFL
dealer, who is reputable, to handle the transfers.
Remember that you can negotiate the terms but, some auctioneers have "fixed fees but, make certain that there is full and complete disclosure to avoid a "surprise" after the sale. You may be able to save a little if your firearms are included or combined with another sale.
Online auctions, just like GB and other sites, allow hundreds, if not thousands of prospective buyers to view you items. The other plus, is that you are able to liquidate the entire inventory/collection at one time. Some folks try to sell them themselves and this can result in a significant period of time not to mention the responsibility of selling to buyers to whom transfer need to be made through and FFL, if they are out of state.
Good luck with your sale and I highly recommend letting a professional do the job.

Mr. Kull is a good guy and knowledgeable about S & W and other products.
The other alternatives would be to have a dealer sell them online as mentioned above, or tackling the tasks above with an FFL involved just to have you coordinate packaging, shipping, etc. If you have a large number of items and not a lot of free time, the auction or dealer sales routes would be much easier.

Most likely going to be an auction or haul them to Cabelas.
I think auction will be more money in my pocket.

The priority of a large sporting goods store is maximum profit, so typically Cabela's will offer you 33-50% of retail value. This is not a criticism; their overhead is high and they have a large operation to run so every department has to be in the black.
I would suggest taking a few items into Cabela's, then perhaps asking Mr. Kull what the estimated net proceeds might be should be for the same items. You might be surprised.

Thank you for the many comments.
For my situation, Kulls sounds like a good choice.

Didn't want to promote one dealer over another but I will second your endorsement.

I have purchased at least 6 firearms at live auctions locally that also have an iive on-line component as well as absentee bids. On more than one occasion I have been bidding against another person(s) in the room as well as an on line bidder. On nice desirable pieces of can push the price up quite high. The ones I have been to have a sellers and buyers premium of 15%. Never seen any with a reserve.

One of the problems with using a non-local on line dealer is getting the guns to them for an auction. If within reasonable driving distance it is doable, but if they all have to be shipped, it can be very expensive.
