Default Forgive me...I have strayed into Glock world

I got a local deal too good to pass up. Guy was selling a Glock 20 Gen 3 FS with box, paperwork, the two magazines along with 425 rounds of 10mm ball ammo. He put 25 rounds through it and it doesn’t fit his hand and he wants to get a 9mm. He and I are meeting next week at his FFl to do the swap and he’s paying the transfer fee.
All told $600 even out the door.

It looks brand new and almost no wear inside the slide. He showed me the receipt that he got it a short time ago so his story checks out.

If I were to get the same rig buying new they go around $631 including tax
Ammo cost 14.99 a box so around $146 including tax
If I bought new it’d cost me $775-$780 range.

Don’t worry I won’t forget my Smith and Wesson revolvers
I always take my 19-5, 36 and 38/44 HD to the range. Now I have one more to learn about!

Looks like this can use 40 once you convert it and 40 here locally is relatively cheap and abundant as it doesn’t sell as well as 9mm.

My wife is a southpaw so she shoots a VP9. I had a Glock 19 Gen3 a few years back but my son took it when he got out of the Marines and moved to NC.

So now I use .38, .357, 9mm, 10mm and the ability to shoot 40 (got to do some research on that)

I wonder what recoil is like on a 10mm as this will be my first one???

Why is it that every single time someone buys a Glock they feel the need to post a thread like this?

Don't get me wrong, it's nice to hear about it, but why does everyone word it as if it's outlandish, unheard of, or otherwise akin to heresy? Especially on this subforum which is devoted towards the discussion of other brands of firearms.

I know how he feels, I went through the same torment after buying my 627-5 with lock and MIM parts. I felt so ashamed I hid it from the forum. I was horrified of possible ridicule. It was so liberating to finally disclose my purchase to the Smith world!!
However, I am almost certain I’d ever stoop low enough to buy a Smith with one of those awful two-piece barrels. I’d rather own a Glock...or 2.

When I brought my first one home (a G42) it seemed that every neighborhood dog was barking at me and all the rude children were pointing and staring. The cacophony subsided a little when I explained that the G42 was for the wife, of course. I dunno, but that's how it seemed at the time. -S2

16 with one in the chamber, nitpicky I know. I have some Pierce +2 grip extentions on a few of my mags, so 18 rounds and yes I can get all 17 rounds in the mag without the tool. Takes a little mod and some dry Teflon. Edit:i forgot, if you use the Pierce extentions get some extra power springs from Wolff. +5% will do.

Ya U got a good deal! Enjoy your new Glock! My go to CCW is & has been for a long time my G27 .40 I love it. I am starting to transition though to the G30 just cause I'm starting to prefer that big .45 slide push rather than my old .40's snap...but it's not really a big thing. I'm just preferring big n fat bullets more these days & sooner or later it's going to be my primary carry.

I've never actually fired a 10mm Kurz but I've found the 10mm with slow powder to be not particularly snappy. More robust than .45ACP for sure, though, but pretty manageable.

Never understood the hate for some guns.I've had some duds and just avoid them but don't hate them. Same way with cars/trucks/bikes.
Glocks really are a proven brand and millions of law enforcement/military people stake their lives on them every day. That's pretty good real world endorsement for me...

I'm quite certain some of the big wig collectors to include at least some of the moderators on this site perpetuate the attitude that if it's not a smith, it's not worth your time. Case in point, a while back I put a want to buy ad on this site for a Ruger .44 Carbine, and my post was edited by a moderator just so a frowny face emoji could be put into the title. I can take those fellers with a grain of salt, but some people can do without the negativity altogether.

Glocks are not pretty firearms, just like an old, worn, slightly rusty claw hammer. But, just like that old claw hammer, Glocks are good tools. No hatred nor admonishment from me, enjoy that Glock, I think you got a real good deal on it.

I hope you and the Glock remain good friends for all of time. It doesn't bother me one whit what guns someone else enjoys. My Cousin got a Glock 17 when they first came out, and I did give him a hard time over that one. He loved it, and as far as I know he still had it when he past away a couple of months ago.

I traded into a Glock 19 maybe 5 years ago, Like the OP, it was a great deal. But I just couldn't warm up to it, and it pointed all wrong for me, so I traded it for a gun I love to shoot, a PX4 storm 9mm.

I think we should all enjoy whatever guns speak to us and point well. And leave them alone that loves ugly guns.

So you don’t need a different barrel or magazines? Interesting
I have a buddy who converted his 23 to shoot 9mm so I just figured I would have to do the same with the 20 and get a different barrel and magazines

If that is the case then I can range shoot some 40 save a little money and use the 10mm out in the fields
Nice

I thought I’d have to save up for some new parts!

Yes, I've been told you can shoot 40s in a 10mm barrel but I don't think I'd care to. I guess the case is just held by the extractor and is held firmly enough to fire. I'd always wonder about that type of head spacing.

I ordered and 40 barrel for my model 40 with conventional rifling so I can shoot cast 40s in the 10. I will probably eventually get a conventionally rifled 10mm barrel for it too. Shooting 40s through it is very mild. I haven't had any failures but it does drop the brass right next to the gun so I do have some concern about that but no actual issues.

I have to agree with what Dirty Harry said up above. (Post #3). OP, you got a good deal on a good gun. Shaming yourself for basically being proud of your good deal is unnecessary! I bought an ugly stainless steel, rubber-gripped GP 100 6" in the "stupid and useless" .327 Federal magnum 7-shot revolver and love the heck out of it! It shoots just fine, although I really like the walnut & blue steel on the S&Ws. It was just less expensive (new), and when I run out of ammo I can beat them with it! Good deal for you...enjoy! Jeff

Earlier this year, I succumbed and bought gen 2 17! Been very happy with it, range and for home defense. Shoots well for me! So my thought for you is try it you might like it, and think of all the accessories you can explore getting into trouble with! 🤗

Good for you. Variety is the spice of life.

I've had a 19 a 17 and a 30. Only one I still own is a 43 that I carry some.

Nice to mix it up. Glocks make great shooters and they're very reliable weapons. 10mm shouldn't be too had on you out of an automatic if you've shot any magnum revolvers.

I don't know why anyone needs to apologize to buy any gun if they spend their own money. If they spend their spouses money that was budgeted to pay rent or buy groceries that might dictate an apology and plead for forgiveness.

40 is basically a 10mm short.

I recently got a great deal on a Gen 5 19. I don't know why but out of all the others I've owned (and sold off) or shot this one actually fits my hand. It came with night sights, 3 mags, box etc. In my hot little hands for under $500 out the door.

I shoot it really really well. As much as I prefer my Colt Gunsight Commander as my daily carry (it disappears in a Sparks VMII) the 19 gets the call during cooler times with a jacket.

Glocks are good tools, a lot of us own them along with our S&W's, I have dropped my glock in dirt and sand, even fell into a river one time with it. The best part is those things might make you feel stupid but you quickly get over it, not so much if it was a nice pristine vintage S&W revolver.

Don't get me wrong, it's nice to hear about it, but why does everyone word it as if it's outlandish, unheard of, or otherwise akin to heresy? Especially on this subforum which is devoted towards the discussion of other brands of firearms.
Im with you on this one. Everyone owns glocks.

I put off getting a G29 from their introduction to the market until last year. Pickup date on my birthday in Feb coincidentally. Good that I at least waited for the SF version. It's one of my favorite carry pieces now.

Sounds like a good deal. The Glock Gen3 20 SF is the best 10mm in my opinion.

Oh heck no. Ol' Gaston and me have a difference of opinion when it comes to ergonomics.

Biggest knock I've seen is the grip size & angle. It works for me though. First Glock I ever fired was a G19. It fely nice in my hand & tore a ragged hole at 10yds (I'm a lousy pistol shot).

The G20sf feels pretty good as well.

I think a lot of the "hate" is tongue in cheek, though some of the fanboiz can be downright annoying.

Your money, your choice, your gun. No problem. Not that it matters, but I've been carrying a Glock for years. It looks a bit different from these photos because it now has Trijicon night sights on it. Do you think I care what someone else thinks of my decision to carry a Glock? How many guesses to you need?

Well, if Smith would make an M&P 10mm, people wouldn't need to look elsewhere.

It's interesting the ideas we have about various gun manufacturers BEFORE we ever shoot a gun. For me, growing up, it was 'Colt' because of the western shows, and 'Smith & Wesson' probably because of the bumper stickers on pick-up trucks (lots of pick-ups in East Texas). When I noticed semi-autos, it was 'Glock', probably from detective movies?

But after owning a few different brands, and talking with a lot of gun owners, I know now that it's almost all personal preference. The only person I knew who carried when I was younger, carried a Glock, and I'm sure he would never have touched anything else. My FFL is a Sig Sauer man and you can see his eyes light up when he talks about them. On the other hand, a very respected friend said he would never buy a Sig because they wear out too fast. And yet another buddy only shoots Berettas.

So I tried a Sig because of my FFL and love it. Then another, then another. Still haven't gotten around to Glocks, Berettas or S&W semi-autos, but I plan to. As far as people here being S&W bigots, I haven't noticed that any more-so than Colt bigots on their forums, Sig bigots on theirs or Ruger bigots on theirs.

M&P probably would not be able to take the added stress of a 10mm. Now an HK would definitely have no problem.

FWIW, there’s much pleasant discussion about a Smith revolvers and 1911s on the Glock site. Doesn’t matter whatcha shoot as long as your buying guns, ammo and using them.
