Erocksmash: just get a new firing pin and spring. It will be good for another 15,000 rounds. 19X is a nice gun. Have a Glock 20 Gen 3 purchased about 15 years ago and purrs like a kitten.

Be SAFE and Shoot Often!

Don't own a Glock. Nothing against them, just prefer M&P's. That could all change over night if I find a deal on a 30sf.

Here's my quick take on Glock. I don't like the grip angle, plastic sights, trigger thingy, pulling the trigger to field strip, white markings on the sights, grip "feel", the slide stop, and most of all no thumb safety. They are reliable, accurate, and I shoot them well but all the guns I own are reliable, accurate, and I shoot them well also. So I don't really need a Glock but I would probably buy one to try for a while if they made a version with a thumb safety.

I have the model 23 that was presented to me when I retired from law enforcement. I had a 27 (I think), but gave it to my youngest son many years ago. The Glock is a fine, reliable firearm, but as Kurusu says, not very attractive. But reliable, sturdy, and lightweight. I will always keep mine, because I'm a very sentimental man, and I will never part with any of my duty firearms.

Best Regards, Les

I tried to find alternatives, but in the end the G26 is the most reliable CCW I've ever had. My G34 is a great bedstand gun with a light.

Yup, several Glocks.

M26 won at a Glock match raffle.
M19 my wife's pick when she moved to center fire handgun.
M23 used in several Glock matches and now the car gun in my Z350.
M20 because I wanted a 10 mm.

That said, my carry guns are either a Colt LW Commander in .38 Super or a Kahr P9.

Remembering one early-morning customer at the LGS where I once worked p/t talking to a co-worker.....I hadn't had my coffee yet.

A young-ish guy telling my buddy that he was gonna bring in "some old guns I inherited and don't care anything about....."

Asked by my buddy what they were and I overheard "Oh, a few - an old model 17, a 27, a 19 and I don't know what-all".

I almost tripped getting over to the counter where they stood.
Turns out he was referring to Glocks.
About ruined our day.

I have a Glock 17, 2nd generation. Was a "deal" at a gun show four years ago. I don't like it and won't use it for serious self defense. Don't like the light weight, the plastic, the crummy trigger, or its looks. It's not remarkably sturdy or reliable, no more so than some other automatics. I don't enjoy shooting it as much as the other automatics. For "perfection" it's woefully overrated as a handgun. It's a specimen while it is here and is subject to becoming trading goods.

I get that. I have three that were issue guns to me. Two S&W revolvers and a Glock 19.

I have two (2). My 21C was a duty sidearm until the M&P 45 ACP came out. The other is my model 32 as my primary off duty sidearm for many years and is the one I chose to qualify with upon retirement.

Maybe I'm wrong, but aesthetics seem to me to be right at the very bottom of considerations in a self-defense weapons. As for reliability and robustness, Glock can pretty stand on its record. Most LE agencies use Glocks or have used Glocks for agency use.

I've got handsome pistols and revolvers, so I appreciate good looks. I also appreciate function and usefulness, which is why the M-16 replaced the M 14. It's a superior weapon and was suited for the job, and so is the Glock, which hit the ground running. Most of the development issues were worked out by the time the pistol was introduced.

19 and a 43x. I carry both and love them both. Not much "character" to them and I definitely have guns I prefer at the range. But they're great, reliable, utilitarian fighting pistols.

Polymer 80 still in the box. I guess I need to collect some parts or sell the damn thing.

I voted #4. Even though it's just the frame.

Iíve got three around here somewhere. I got a 27 when they first came out and carried it off and on for 20 years on the job. It never jammed and was more accurate than it had a right to be. I gave it to my youngest when I retired.

I got an FBI Commemorative Glock 22 when it was offered to agents in 2008. Iíve shot it a few times, but mostly it sits in its fancy etched glass case.

I got my wife a Glock 19 a few years ago. She likes it and usually keeps it in her car. It works every time we shoot it.

No guns have ďsoulĒ aside from what we bring to them. I hope when Iím dead and gone and my son holds the 27 I gave him heíll remember me and the war stories I told him and get a good feeling. That can happen with any gun.

All this talk of Glocks having no soul makes me want to buy one then have it refinished in magenta cerakote with "soul" on the slide in gold letters in the same font as Soul Train.

Like this...

Plus this...

Tell me that wouldn't have soul.

I own 4 Glocks., 2 27's, 2 30's. I used to shoot a G23 as well. I like em all. I never thought they were particularly ugly. One thing w Glocks however, the Talon grip wraps or similar manufacturer type whether granulate or rubber will change Ur mind regarding how they feel, grip & shoot. IMO they are required after market additions., as well as a good set of nightsights...that's it. Oh and no Mexican Carry with Glocks!! Always must have a proper holster w trigger covered & protected at all times.

The no soul discussion always reminds me of George C Scott in The New Centurions leaning out the window of the paddy wagon full of hookers telling one on the street: Baby, I got more soul than I can control!

I love my Smiths, but the Glock 19 is the finest concealed carry pistol ever invented. It will fire under water, and when the guide rod melts from thousands of rounds fired in rapid succession.

Yeah, I've seen some of the torture tests the Glock has been subjected to, and as impractical as some of them may be, the only time I've ever been more impressed was by a Hi-Point torture test in which it continued to fire after it had been shot in the slide by another pistol.

I wish that somebody like Iraqveteran8888 would do torture tests on a SIGMA, just for fun.

I have one. I had a Glock 19 but gave it to my lady for her carry quals. I replaced it with a Glock 23 because I didn't have a 40 cal. I'd rather have the 19 back. I don't have a problem with the 23 pistol I just don't like the snappy 40 cal in my small hands. I'd rather shoot my 4516 but it pulls my pants down.

With my arm twisted behind my back, i must admit I have 3. A 26,30,45. I have NEVER had a FTF. My carry is a XDs Model2 9mm/S&W38and a 642. Different seasons, different carries. The Glocks are home and car guns. I'm older and I do not like to carry with out a safety or a double action.

Yep . . . I own (and carry some) a 43. Much much better gun than the LC9 or LC9s and I'm usually a Ruger guy.

Have also previously owned a 30, 19 and 17.

Glock, one lives in my lockable nightstand drawer (open at night) next to a .38 snub revolver. If ever needed, go to revolver first, if more than 6 shots needed there are plenty in that Glock 17 with spare mag.
Hopefully they never have to fire a shot in peril!

Still have most of these and a few others not pictured. My EDC on-duty and off-duty are Glock 19's. I grew up carrying 1911's but had to switch to a SIG when I got into LE. My department started issuing Glocks in 1996 and while I still love the 1911 ,and carry one occasionally just because, I can't rationalize not picking the Glock as my EDC.

A G43 and a G48.

The G48 is handy and doesn't point high and right like the double stack frames do. Centered and inch high at 15. I use the Shield Arms 15 rnd mags in mine, and far more handy and comfortable G19 size.

VP9 and M&P 2.0 4in are my first choices, though the 48 is mighty easy to carry.

I will say the Glock 30 is the cat's meow...it shoots like a dream, soft push recoil & very reliable...easy to carry & 10 rounds of fat .45 (11 if you can manage to get 10 into the mag LOL) and it is very accurate. Glock mags are notorious for that last round getting in, at least until they break in a bit...but 10 is fine...plus the 13 rounders are great with the XGrip magazine sleeve slipped on.

Shield Arms offers the S15, a metal 15 round magazine. Be sure to grab a metal mag catch. Mine has been 100% over 400 rnds each so far HP and FMJ.

I gave in and bought a 27 when they came out, and after a couple of hundred rounds I sold it. I just couldn't hang on to that short grip, and the no safety and light trigger kept me from carrying it.

Fast forward 22 years and I ended up with a Gen 3 19. I loaded it, held it, then unloaded it and put it up. A year or so later I realized I wasn't going to ever carry it, for the same reason, so I swapped it for a Beretta PX4, which I like a lot better. It even looks better. LOL!

I doubt I'll get another,........ well, if the right deal comes along on a 10mm I might. It should be a pretty good woods walker. If I can shoot it okay. The 19 just didn't point right for me either.

I'm not against them as an OWB gun, but the trigger kept me from putting it in my pants. I had a good shooting Ruger SR9 for a while, but as weird as it might sound, the trigger was too light for my comfort.

I guess I'm just a hammer gun guy.

I have often wondered how ol' Gaston came up with the grip angle on what became the most popular poly-pistol in the world.

IIRC, it's a 22 or 23 degree angle and most autos that Americans are used to are around 17 degrees.
Among all the other stuff that has been written about them endlessly for 40+ years now, do believe that grip angle is off-putting to very many.

I don't even notice the grip angle, and don't think it's off-putting to VERY many people as it's probably the most popular pistol in the US. It's certainly the most popular LEO weapon.

I don't know many people who choose a pistol based on grip angle. There are simply too many other factors that figure into the choice.

All of the guns I own are manufactured primarily with steel. Nothing polymer in my safe.

Glock 24 Gen 3 40 S&W & Glock 26 Gen 4 9mm
Haven't carried the Glocks since the M&P Shield came around

This has been a Glock-free household for almost 20 years now - ever since I found the Walther P99 and P99C.

We've all heard the analogies - I compare my used, LE-trade G19 to my Estwing hammer. A great tool that reliably does all it's designed for and does it well. There's almost zero pride of ownership, but you can count on it working.

Then, realized that there's a few other poly-pistols I own and have stellar results with.....
Summer pocket carry 98% of the time is a Kahr PM9 I bought in the late 90's when it was about the only 'tiny 9' on the market. Still works great for that.

Wife owns and shoots two polys - a KelTec P3AT .380 occasionally and a S&W M&P 9mm Compact. Both have been extremely reliable.

I attended a S&W Armorer's Course some years back and was handed a voucher to get any M&P auto for the sum of $200. I didn't really want one all that much, but gosh - $200. Yeah, I checked the block for a M&P midsize .45 with thumb safety (per my M1911 proclivities). It's been a great gun and the one I use for occasional security contracting work.

So, guess I need to reign in any overt poly bashing, since it's obvious there really is a place for them. Heirlooms? No, but good no-nonsense tools.
Well said, sir

Has any one had a manual safety installed on a Glock?

If anything, it seems to me as if it's more unusual to encounter someone who doesn't own or has never owned a Glock.

So I figured I'd poll it and see just how many Glock owners are among us.

Personally, I don't own a Glock, but I do own a Smith & Wesson SIGMA, which is a Glock Clone.
No, I don't own a Glock, or Glock facsimiles.

Well, just as I expected, folks who own Glocks outnumber those who don't 2 to 1, and the joke is thus completely irrelevant.

However, I am a big surprised at how few people own Glock Clones such as the SIGMA, considering that this is the Smith & Wesson Forum, but in many ways that just goes to illustrate just how silly the whole joke about buying a Glock being controverial really is.

Default Only to compete with LEO daughter

Never had any interest whatsoever with Glock or any other plastic fantastic. In fact...for 45 ACP I just love my 25-2 (with full moon of course). If I have a hankering for semi-auto in 45 ACP I just grab the old Ithaca 1911A1. Any times me or the family wanted 9mm range time it was the BHP or lately the Model 39-2.

EDC is still a J Frame on OWB carry.

So...ÖÖ.fat, dumb, happy for bucoo years...then what? Youngest daughter decides to join a State Agency where she lives in North Carolina. That was several years ago and when home here on holidays or whatever would tag along to the range with me, toting her assigned duty weapon, Glock 21 Gen 4 in 45 ACP. She would shoot center mass holes like you wouldn't believe in std FBI silhouette targets, while I'm still reloading my M25, OR...all over the paper with the old Ithaca.

Solution? My own Glock 21 Gen 4 (and of course a Uplula loader) and now.....daughter dear.....we are on the same page at the same time. Results? She still leaves me in the dust, but at least the same amount of rounds are downrange and she's no longer waiting for the ol man to catch up

Only difference in her duty gun and mine is her serial number begins with NCSP.
