Bought one of these today:



Ruger Blackhawk Flat Top Anniversary model in .45 Colt’s with .45 ACP conversion cylinder and ivory handles. Been thinking A LOT of the ideal single action revolver for me, and this is pretty much it. Ruger toughness and durability. The Anniversary action has the old pawl system that properly indexes the chambers like an old Colt, yet is safe to carry with all six. Adjustasights for versatility in different loads, gunfighter’s length barrel for easy packing, lighter frame than the standard Blackhawk for easier packing.

Yes I know it won’t take .45 Colt magnums, that’s ZERO issue as I have no intention of shooting them as the power is NOT needed where I live (Las Vegas) and I don’t like all the recoil. A standard, tried and true, proven .45 Colt’s standard power is JUST FINE for this ‘ol country boy. The .45 ACP cylinder will allow affordable practice as I don’t reload. The .45 is God’s caliber in a single if you ask me.

So it should be tough, packable, versatile, affordable to shoot, supposedly pretty accurate, and cool. Once I get it and ensure all is well and it works good, I’ll be getting a holster and cartridge slide for it, plus maybe some stags.

Nice pick Jay. Looks like what they call a "perfect packing pistol". Short barreled Ruger SA's are some of my favorite woods carry handguns. That .45 will do all that needs done with a handgun, and the ACP cylinder adds a lot of versatility.

Funny how "peer pressure" can get to ya on this forum. I never had a thought about a Beretta 81 .32acp until I seen a recent thread about them here. Seen one this past weekend at a local gun show, thought about that recent thread, and bought it. Enablers here, all.....

Great looking gun, Jay. Believe me, you won't be sorry you got it. I've been packing a .45 Colt for 40+ years and have never regretted it. One of my all-time favorite cartridges.

The newer Ruger flat tops are great. I really like how they use the smaller frame than the regular Blackhawks. Does it have a steel grip frame and ejector rod housing ?
One of the best things is their decision to put the warning instructions on the bottom of the barrel where they are less obtrusive.

I have it’s twin. It’s a lot of fun with the .45acp cylinder. Those stubby little cartridges load so easily and the empties just about fall out without the ejection rod. Even though it can’t handle the Ruger only loads it will handle .45 acp+p. Which are plenty powerful. You can load it right from a 1911 magazine. Which is handy. Enjoy yours.

Ruger revolvers all seem to be heavy duty trucks; at least all the ones I've touched. (I even had a Wrangler in my hand the other day, all black or silver & black available, and enough in pocket to buy both, but...very solid gun.) OP Jay, your gun is very nice-looking. I hope it serves you well. Still, the S&Ws are prettier as far as DA/SA, maybe a little pricier, so a new one will be my next purchase. But, that .45 here is a very nice-looking gun. I'm sure you'll love it! Thanks for sharing...and, again, I'm jealous of a fellow Forum member!

JayFramer, I meant to ask: out of curiosity, does it have the 4 clicks? Just wonderin'. Most do, I guess. I'm still trying to figure out if I did the right thing on Saturday. I consigned my Uberti SAA .45 Colt, Cattleman model. It was sold before I got home. After a recent Ruger purchase I kinda had to let go a couple guns so I sold the least expensive two I had. My wife doesn't understand value, just quantity, so to keep my home happy, yinz all, I hope, understand how I "justified" the GP 100 that rests in my tool cabinet right now. Now to work on that S&W! Again, nice SA .45!

Great choice. I love the flat top Rugers, both three screws and new models. That’s a really versatile gun. Uses everything from powder puff small game to powerful big game and self defense loads. Shot cartridges work great too. Check El Paso for leather.

Rugers aren’t dainty. With one possible exception. The little Bearcat. It’s the only Ruger that doesn’t seem way over built. Compare it side to side with a single six or wrangler it’s hard to believe they are designed for the same cartridge.

I have the same gun in a 44 special that they released a few years ago. I really want to pick up one of the 45s. They are fine looking revolvers for sure.

Excellent.

Love the feel and the way it indexes properly with the loading gate. Sorry, but it’s far superior to the normal blackhawks in this regard. Have some John Wayne style grips coming for it. Going to shoot it tomorrow at the range!
