Just home from the range, where I put the new Sig P210 through its paces.
This one is the Standard version with a tritium and orange front Ameriglo sight, five magazines, and a second set of grips. Bought them yesterday using my NRA Instructor discount at the Sig Pro Shop.
I am not a Sig fanboy, but WOW this is a nice pistol!
I shot it and is tiny grandchild my P238 for a few hundred rounds each. What a wonderful range day!
Next I will attempt to fit a 3904 magazine to the 210 for an additional round, and get some good leather for it. I used a 1911 holster today and it was good enough, but not perfect.
All in all, this shoots my preferred 147 grain load better than any fancy pistol I have ever fired, and thats a lot of nice guns. I would argue that this American P210 is better made than the old Swiss ones, but dont get all bitter about that comment unless you have fired both. I have, and this one is better. (Sample size of one)

I have not had the pleasure of firing either this new production one or ANY that preceded it but I've been a more than casual side observer quite interested in the P210 of all vintages for a while now. I will fight tooth and nail to resist any/all urges to get sucked in to a new and royally expensive wormhole of fascination and love.

Your bold statement will get you tarred and feathered in 103% of the places that you care to post it. I will NOT being doing any of the tarring nor feathering, because I've only handled this version, never handled any earlier, and have had the pleasure to shoot zero of them.

I am quite interested in what your preferred load is, as I'm always chasing the dream of getting my elite 9mm guns to act more like my elite .32, .38 and .45cal target guns.

I'm also interested in your (hopeful?) success at getting the 9-rd single stack S&W magazine to work.

That thing is gorgeous. It's at the top of my "MUST....RESIST..." list.

Count me among the Tar and Feather group. The new P210, while nice, cannot hold a candle to the originals in terms of fit, finish, and workmanship. Yes I have handled both.

The designs are also different, the new P210 is a 210 in name only.

I couldn't agree more. The design is totally changed and the fit and finish are nowhere near as good on the new models. Not to say it's not a good gun, but it's not a real P210.

Time will tell on the magazine.
As for now, the Sig follower and spring in the 3904 mag body does all the Things it needs to do. The cut to be made on the mag body will be a small bit of labor, and the mag will of course stick out of the grip somewhat.
My favorite load for 9mm target shooting is Federal 147 grain jacketed flat point. Its crazy accurate in my Berettas, S&Ws, and now this Sig.
Here are some pics comparing factory 210 mag, 3906 mag, and 39-2 mag.
The 39 magazine is very close in size and the follower for the sig fits right in and functions well assuming one holds the magazine in place in the frame.
I will cut a slot in the 3906 magazine for the sig frame and try it at the range next week.

Is the Sig Model 210 single action ?

Yes they are. Both the originals and the new one.

Yes single action cocked and locked 1911 style. In fact after 500 or so draws and reholsters, the Galco Combat Master 1911 holster I have been using is a better and better fit

I also recently acquired a P210A target edition. I can't compare it to the German or Swiss processors, but so far I am very please with it's accuracy, fit and finish. For less than $1400, it seems to me to be a good value.

However, I did experience a failure of its recoil spring assembly after only around 200 rounds; the end nut separated. This has occurred on approximately 20% of the American P210's according to Sig Talk. Sig promptly sent a replacement RSA, but I also purchased (and installed) an aftermarket spring assembly from DPM, which appears to me to be a superior design. The gun can be made functional without the RSA end nut, but it was an unwelcome aggravation for a pistol in this price range. -S2

They seem to have redesigned the recoil assembly. (I did order the Zahan unit but dont have it yet)
The new recoil guide rod is peened on the end vice threaded.

It’s definitely not a 210, designation only. To preempt such discussions, they should have called it the 211. Still a nice gun, just not a 210.

I will check it out. At the moment, the only way to get the P210 magazine follower is by buying a 210 magazine. The goal here is to either a: find a way to eventually increase capacity to 10 for use in competition, or b: find an inexpensive way to get more magazines, or c: both.
Mags at the pro shop are $35.50 and they had five, so I bought five. This brings me to seven magazines, and for single stack guns I like to have at least 10, but preferable more.
I will keep looking of course, but I might have to bite the bullet and buy more from Sig at that price (which is lower than anywhere else I had seen them)
The GOOD NEWS is that the s&w single stack floorplates fit and work just fine, and the model 39/39-2 springs are identical in every way, and that gives a source of springs very easily.

But, if you're going to come out of the gate by making the comparison, then it is only fair to respond in kind.

Have you tested it in a Ransom Rest?
Have you tested 10 of them in a Ransom Rest?

Really, they should have given it a different name. The design of the new one is more derivative of the SIG-Hämmerli P240.
Even the use of the name SIG is a misnomer.
SIG literally means:
Schweizerische Industrie Gesellschaft
In other words, Swiss Industrial Society.

At least the new "SIG" seems to be quality and functional product out of the box (something that seems to be hit or miss with the new Colt "Python").
Will it do as well after 100,000 rounds, as has been documented repeatedly with numerous original Swiss made P210s? Only time will tell....

Maybe the gun industry is bitten by the same bug as Hollywood, that is, an obsession with sequels???

It's really too bad. Marketing choices make it difficult to judge the product on its own merit.

squidsix, Sounds like you are already really enjoying your new pistol. Reference it being "better" than the Swiss guns, I knew that comment was going to draw some fire. FWIW, I don't think of the 210A as "better". I would say "different". I haven't tested 10 of anything in a Ransom Rest, or put 100.000 rounds through any one pistol of any kind. But at last count, since the '80s I have owned 4 Swiss, 3 German and 1 American 210. So I have some basis for comparison. While the Swiss guns hammer bite me badly, and I do not care for that heel type magazine release at all, the Swiss guns set the standard for quality. And I can report, that I have never encountered a more accurate or reliable pistol than the Swiss 210. The German versions differ, but the changes are a plus to me. A magazine release that is much easier to operate, and no more bloodshed from hammer bite. I've had a US manufactured 210A for about two years now. It is certainly nicely fitted and finished, and many will enjoy the new safety and slide release, but it's too early for us to know it's long term durability. Reports of the end of the recoil spring assembly breaking off certainly do not bode well, but hopefully this issue will be resolved, and soon. But maybe it won't....

Reference P210A fit and finish compared with Swiss 210s, fit of component parts, internal machine work, finish, trigger quality, etc. are all excellent on the my American version. And FWIW, slide/frame fit of my US gun is a bit closer than my Swiss 210.

Having had the opportunity to own Swiss, German and US examples, my favorite over time has become the German 210 Target version. But I still don't think the newer 210s are "better"/of higher quality, than the Swiss guns...

It occurs to me that the correct statement I should have made is this:
“This pistol is better, for me, than the pistols that came before it with the same name that were quite different”.

I dont want a Sig 210, as previously designed. I agree they were finished beautifully, fitted perfectly, and incredibly accurate.

I dont like heel-mounted mag releases, frame mounted decocker levers, sharp rear sights, or hammer bite.

So I suppose I didnt want a sig P210. I wanted this pistol instead

that's nice! I had one, the first target model that was released.

Here's a question: Mine was able to drop the hammer when the safety was engaged. I would gently put downward pressure on the thumb safety, without actually disengaging it. At the point when just before the thumb safety would actually disengage (still engaged), the trigger could be pulled and the hammer would drop. I called SIG and the man on the phone said his model did that too.

Has this been addressed?

Also, your rear sight appears to be leaning left. Does it shoot POA?

Dunno. I havent attempted that but I will let you know. I do know that you can safe it with the hammer down, and the slide moves with the safety on, which took some getting used to for a 1911 guy like me

I purchased this German P210 Super Target last summer and love it. I looked at the American guns and they were very nice but I decided to go with the 6" barrel and I am glad I did. The fit and finish are super nice.

I have two Sig 9mm and have been looking at picking up a Sig P210 in .45ACP. Glad to hear another great report on these.

They dont make the 210 in .45. You are stuck with 9mm in this model

For a SIG in 45 ACP go to the P220, they shoot just as good.

I swapped the grips with a set from grips4u.
They have a larger palm swell and a checkered backstrap. They also have concealed pins along the back that ensure the grips are perfectly flush fitting with one another. Its very nicely done and these are extremely well made. These feel perfect for this pistol.

I highly recommend the P210 Super Target from the German Mastershop. They sell for about $4000-$4500 on Gunbroker, but worth every penny. You get the same design as the original Swiss gun instead of the locking block Sig USA uses as one of the ways they cut costs.

You also get near Swiss P210 level of parts quality, build quality and refinement, along with modern features like a beavertail and thumb safety. I own multiple Swiss models and enjoy shooting my German Super Targets more. I was always a Swiss P210 guy and still am, as the older ones in particular are some of the finest handguns ever made by man. However, for the range, I'll take the German Super Target every time.


































As for the American P210A, I’ve shot a couple. While they aren’t something I’d buy, they are good shooters for not a lot of money. However, if you have the means, I very highly recommend the German Super Target. You won’t be disappointed.

As a Navy enlisted man with three kids and wife in college, I certainly do not have means, but I absolutely DO have the enthusiasm and admiration!

As a mean person of means who lives in a non free western state, I can't buy a German made one nor the modern production one at a gunshop.

Purchased one of the 210a's and am very pleased with it. Cleaned an apparent excessive amount of grease out of the hammer assembly, and the trigger got even better. Seen several with same situation , but that was after the first round of production. While not as finally machined/hand fitted as my M49, it is easily more functionally accurate with a better trigger. Really think it is a good deal at the price.
