Default Anyone Carry a Buck 110?

Seems just about every farmer, hunter, mechanic, blue color worker, etc. had one when I was growing up. It was sort of “THE” folding American knife. Nowadays you don’t see as many as you used to, more modern and lighter knives around so it’s understandable. Yet, I own one of these impressive and pretty, and durable, folders and enjoy carrying it around at times just for nostalgia, and also because it’s just a good dependable knife.

Anyone else carry a Buck 110 still?

-Jay

Default Yes everyday

I leave it at home on Sundays for church. Otherwise if I am upright there is a buck 110 on my belt. JA

Everyday for almost 40 years now. Long enough to wear 2 out and have Buck replace the blades. I’ve worn out at least 20 sheaths.

I carry a Buck Stockman 301 but I do have a 110 from the early 70s.
It was THE KNIFE for aspiring Bos’n Mates in the Coast Guard at that time.
Cost $12.50 at the exchange in Yorktown Virginia, I think my monthly pay was around $270.

I don't, but my dad carried one regularly.

I've often thought about getting one. Don't know if I would carry it regularly, though. I like my Delica.

I haven’t carried mine since the early 1970’s.

I discovered the much superior Gerber which has a more useful steel and is less than half as wide

I have owned 2 Buck 110's forever. I don't carry them because they are too heavy. For daily use I like a multi-blade pocket knife.

I like my Buck 110 but I quit carrying it because I couldn't open it one handed. Then I found this on Fleabay.

It's called a Kwick Stud I think it cost $8 including shipping. It's a solid piece of brass with the set screw in it I put it on a month ago and it hasn't backed off or moved or slipped since.

ETA I wouldn't want anyone thinking I'm misrepresenting my knife. I just noticed that's actually a picture of the Schrade LB7 made under contract for Craftsman tools that is sitting on my duty belt. My Buck 110 (which also has a Kwick Stud) is what I carry when I'm not at work

Wore out some pockets carrying one years ago.
Now carry a flatter K-Bar, except in deer season. Then the Buck
goes along to the woods. And is used on deer, if I get one.

I have one, but never carry it. I carry three knives in my RFP which together weigh less than the 110.

I have a couple of them when I go hunting I like to carry one of them, they can be heavy but they are very reliable and very sharp and they are also nice, if you have it use it.

I think I’m the only one who appreciates the heft of a 110. It is a formidable striking weapon and a good light hammer in a pinch. I’ve adjusted gun sights and moved stubborn barrel bolts with gentle tapping. A few marks but no real damage.

has anybody ever ordered a custom version of the 110 from the Buck website? I have started to do that a couple of times and I thought the cost was getting pretty steep fast? I wished they had other knives for a custom knife as I would like to get a large stockman that was a little nicer than the usual stockman.

I keep a 112 in the range bag

I bought one just before leaving for VN in 72. A buddy modified it slightly by sanding in some small finger grooves so I could have a better grip. Still have it and carry it on occasion.

I have one as a car knife. Recent made 110 with a nylon fabric sheath.
Tough made knife, with durable blade. I have a Chinese clone of a mini 110. Carry is easy , cuz it's half the weight. (Found it ...too)
I like Retro stuff, but a carry a SOG Trident with spring assist (90% of the time) .

Never owned one. But I have a very similar Puma Whitetail.

It's a fine knife, but heavier than my Benchmade 710 and other knives, so gets carried just occasionally.

I think all of my Bucks are sheath knives, Models 105, 119, 120.

I know of one used to kill a Kodiak bear and another that killed a cougar, although the latter was really Schrade's version, an LB-7.

I used to have one, but gave it away to my brother in law years ago. I had a second one that I won as a first place trapshooting prize. I put it away in my safe for #2 son until he was old enough to have it. Won a nice sheath knife too. That also went to my son. I must say that while I always liked the construction, I was never impressed with Buck’s ability to take and hold an edge regardless of their claims. Just me I guess

I ordered a custom 110 that should be close to shipping. Chose hard chrome with cherry wood and SV30 blade steel. Will post a pic when I get it. My dad carried one most of his life and I have carried his for a long time.

I've got a 110 and three LB-7s. I use them quite a bit and are my favorite belt knifes.

I recently found one at a pawn shop. I have only carried it a couple of times, because of the weight. It is scratched up, but has never been sharpened. I have a few Bucks that I like and carried a 301 Stockman for years. My favorite is my wife's 501 Squire that I bought her years ago. I finally bought me one last year.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

I had a 110 that I carried during my 20s, when I had a Harley and worked in the steel mill. The tip broke off opening a can of motor oil and later the sheath"s belt loop broke off. Don't know where it is today. I still have a 112 but don't carry it. I have a spring-assist S&W knife I got at Grainger's for about $23, keeps a razor sharp edge and stays clipped to my belt. If I lose it, I'll drive down to Liberty Ave. Grainger's and buy another! That model 110 was THE biker knife back in the day, though!

I find it odd that people noticed the weight of a knife that weighs 7 ounces

I carried one on my duty belt for over 20yrs. We were required to carry a folding lock blade knife and were provided a basket weave pouch to carry it in. I probably cut a hundred miles of fingerprint tape with it. When I retired I sent it back to Buck for a refurb. It currently resides here on my computer desk. I have another one for deer hunting.

Great knifes, but they're a little large and heavy for my daily uses. I never liked the look of a knife sheaf on my side unless I was hunting so that doesn't work for me either. I do have a couple of the smaller synthetic Buck lock blades that are more practical for me.

I recently found a NOS Schrade Old Timer 60T, which is a similar design. It's a big heavy knife and unless I'm wearing a shoulder rig for the gun and mags, it's more weight than I want on my belt.

It's also too big for work carry (military installation) so I don't get to carry it as much as I would like.

I chose it over the Buck because it has a lanyard hole.

In any event, they're great and tough knives. Watch out for the discount places - most of the mare selling chicom knockoffs.

Not mine but looks like:

I have one with the Crelican ebony panels and sporting fingers cutouts. It came form France and was brought to me last july by my youngest daughter who lives there.
It came with a black leather sheath made in México.
The other one a 110 clone is a Chinese made Kershaw Wildcat Ridge, a very well made and sturdy knife.
I only use them, on a rotating basis, when I head to the outdoors, since using them in the city would, without doubt, atract unwanted prying eyes.

Regards, Ray

It was THE knife to carry for awhile. In the 1970's my college major was Fish & Wildlife Management, and we also hung out with the Forestry major guys.
A Buck 110 on the belt was standard gotta-have stuff.

Ran across my old one the other day. Black sheath worn to almost tan, brass knife frame almost green with verdigris. Blade sharpened so many times it had started taking on the profile of a filet knife

I recall way back when that Buck had great customer service and one could ship them a very worn, or even sometimes abused product and they'd refurbish/rebuild for almost nothing. Not sure if that's still the case.

Yeah, that's still the case. I broke the tip of my 110 blade about 30 years ago and last year sent it back to Buck. They replaced the blade and sent me back a VERY sharp knife...impressively sharp.

And I remember back in the day seeing a passenger with one strapped to his side on an airplane trip. Won't see that anymore.

I have a very old one but I don't carry it, but I used to. Does that count.

Because I don't keep receipts for knives I've purchased, unlike firearms, I have no idea how old it is. If I had to guess I would say I bought it at least 40 years ago.

I only use them, on a rotating basis, when I head to the outdoors, since using them in the city would, without doubt, atract unwanted prying eyes.

Regards, Ray
Official eyes? How large a knife is legal there? Does that vary by state? I know that Brazilian knife smiths make Bowie and gaucho knives that presumably can't be worn in cities.

Never heard of Crelican ebony. Where is Crelica? Usually see Macassar ebony mentioned. But I don't know where it is from, either. I think ebony is an African wood. Don't know from which countries.

Give them a try. I had them refinish a Model 120 that I rescued at a gun show. It came back looking virtually new. I don't recall the price, but not much.

I saw a video where a guy sent back his dad's Model 120, and they refinished it and because they couldn't repair a couple of tiny dents in that tough phenolic resin handle, he also got a new 120 and a replacement sheath for the old one.

I think they sharpen a blade for $7.00. But you have to add postage.

I think Buck makes a good product at a more than fair price.

I've told the story on this site before, I won a Anniversary edition Buck 110 from the late Shouldazagged in a karma drawing about 4 years ago around Christmas time. With his generous permission, I gifted the knife to my son who had just developed a taste for hunting. My son wears it every chance he gets. He's used it to dress quite a few deer and hogs with it. I always carried a Buck 112 that I bought myself when I graduated from the Basic Medic course at Ft. Sam Houston in 1975. When my daughter married last June, I cleaned and sharpened it and presented it to my new son-in-law as a combination wedding/welcome to the family gift. Personally, in my old age, my favorite folding knives these days tend to be CRKT brand.

Regards,

Dave

I bought the 50th Anniversary one several years ago. I was going to carry it, but the sheath is too short to fit the knife. Both are still in my dresser drawer. I also have a Buck Lite I bought perhaps 40 years ago that I carry when hunting or think about it.

On my belt in its holster as I type. I use it very rarely in my daily existence but it's there when I need it. My old Leatherman rides next to it.

Have a 110 & 1011. A little big for pocket carry.
That's why I have a 550 buck in my pocket all the time.

Legality here is a complicated matter, you see reloading presses and dies, considered tools in US, are controlled items here- go figure !
As for blades at least in Rio the max lenght allowed is 10 cm. Remember this is a metric country, but even so, metric or imperial it´s almost impossible the measure the authorities and the general people stupidity, so better carry a folder clipped inside the pants, covered by a T shirt. In my case it´s a semi serrated CRKT M21 14 SFG.
Clerican , don´t know where the name came from, refers to ebony that Buck uses from a reforestation effort in Congo. In their site as well in the box contents they explain it all.

I carried one on my belt all through High School, as did most of the other guys. It was almost as if it was part of an unofficial school uniform.

I recently purchased a pair of 110's as HS graduation gifts for my twin grandsons. Unfortunately, they were not trusted to carry even a butter knife when they were in High School. Sigh.

Carried one while in the Army back in the 70's and 80's.
Every GI had one.
Switch to a Spyderco Dragonfly due to being legal everywhere I go at work.
Still have a 112 that gets carried a lot.

I am curious what would lead you to describe the Gerber as “much superior”, and its steel as “more useful”.

I have an OLD BUCK 110 from the early 60's.I started working at a POWER CO. and accepted a bet that the blade was NOT indestructible I lost...tried to cut a bolt....didn't know the bolt was an airplane bolt! A friend was JOHN EKS SON & he cleaned it up.I was given a gift of a BUCK 560 & LIFTER made a custom sheath for her! No amount of $$$ could buy them! Wonder if either friend is still alive!

I have one that is my regular hunting carry. It replaced a 6" Buck Special that I carried the first dozen years till I decided I didn't need to kill grizzly bears with my hunting knife. Still have the Special, but it doesn't get used much.

Nope. I usually pocket carry a SAK, but don't hate me...I have a Bucklite 422 folder and picked up four fixed-blade Bucks for hunting over the years.

I only carry mine when I'm at the farm. Keep it in the chest pocket of my bibs.
