I commemorated the stock market crash by buying a Colt
My 401k took a big dump today so I decided to treat myself to this little guy.
1960 Colt Cobra .38 Special. It has some finish wear but is nice and tight.
The screws are unbuggered and the stocks have the last 3 digits of the serial number written on the inside in white grease pencil. I don't think they had ever been off the gun.
The market will go back up (I hope) and until I does I'll have this lovely little guy to shoot and carry.
Price was right, too.
I'm a great negotiator. I pitched $375 and the owner said: No. To which I replied: Great! Ring it up!

That's a great price for an honest wear Cobra! Still have several months for it to ride comfortably in a coat pocket in Colorado.

I like the way you think! I consider a stock market drop to be a buying opportunity. Usually that means buy stocks. In your case, you bought stocks and a snubby to go with them. I may have to re-think my approach.
Nice revolver! My complements!

Trust only God, Gold, and Guns (Lead too)
Wow! Why didn't I think of that. Great Idea.
I could have done that I guess with the Shootable Reintroduced
Colt Python 357Mag, but that was a No Go. Colt can't even get
that right.
Still eyeing several S&W's.
Congratulations on a Great Purchase. The Best to you and your
Endeavors.

If I were the OP, I would stop by Home Depot or Lowe’s on the way home from the next gun shop and buy some 6”x6” timbers to shore up the floor under my gun safe.

That Cobra is in much better shape than mine! But I paid $159 in 2004.
As to guns and the stock market. A few years ago, my broker was giving me a yard of manure because I hadn't been investing through him, I said your return ratios are way to small. He smarted off, and said Where do You get better returns? I said "Large frame Revolvers from before WWII in very good condition!" So he says there can't be that many! I tell about a couple I know: He bought $165,000 in revolvers, She bought $300,000+ in SxS shotguns, and doubled their money in 2 years!
Now, wipe your mouth on a paper napkin. 1928 taught us that the real value of a stock certificate is equal to that used napkin!

Very nice! Curious, I just looked it up. The aluminum framed Cobra weighs in, empty, at 15 oz. vs. 21 oz. for the Detective Special.

Very nice. I carried a 2nd year production Cobra for several years. The wear is typical. Shot to point of aim with the old 200 gr RNL "Super Police" load. Carries like it's not even there.

We should start a Closed End Fund that invests in classic revolvers...maybe a SPAC or a BDC.

Here's a Venezuelan crested Colt Cobra I used to own. It had a 5" Police Positive Special marked barrel on it, and it was incorrectly marked as "Argentena" on the tag when I bought it. I talked the seller down to $225 IIRC.
It shot fantastic groups at 25yds with non+P 158gr lead ammo, but like an idiot I let it go. Even with the 5" barrel, and lightweight frame, it felt very good in the hand when firing it.
I sold it on consignment at a local gunshop a few years ago due to the barrel possibly/most likely not being original. (Who knows, maybe Colt did ship it with a Police Positive Special barrel?)
I kinda wish I had that one back every now and then.

As far as the grips on my Venezuelan Colt Cobra neither number on them matched the "382" stamped on the butt or the last 3 digits of it's serial number...…...yet another reason I was willing to let it go at the time.
I just always assumed the grips got mixed up over in Venezuela during cleaning, maintenance, etc...

Nice cobra.
I wanted to buy one last year but I was a little concerned with finding spare parts if needed and finally I purchased a S&W Model 60.

1960 - congrats on buying one that works as advertised.
Very cool gun and I believe that $395 is an honest price for both you and the seller

What a little jewel! Congratulations on your latest acquisition.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again...the rampant colt is the greatest firearms logo ever designed.

I happened to be watching live TV on November 24, 1963 when they were
moving Lee Harvey Oswald to a more secure location. Jack Ruby, owner
of a local strip joint, stepped forward and blasted Oswald in the guts with
his Colt's Cobra. Oswald died shortly after at the hospital. Ruby's Cobra
had the hammer shroud, but otherwise just like yours. I wanted one ever
since.
About 15 years ago I found a Colt's Agent in a local gun store and bought
it for $250. It is about the same as the Cobra except the grip frame is
a bit shorter, and most Agent's were parkerized. Mine is shown below
left with the hammer spur removed and wearing Craig Spegel extended
boots.
You might be interested to know that holsters made for Ruger's SP101
also fit the DS, Cobra, & Agent. Below, starting 2nd from left, to right,
are 4 of my Agent's favorite rides:
Black Hills lizard high ride pancake
PWL's 120 TS (tension screw) pancake
Baker Pancake (open top are fairly scarce)
KD's gator trim pancake

Very nice!!! Great looking gun! I bought my very first legal gun from the gun room in 1993, when they were still between 10th and 11th Ave on Broadway. A 6" stainless .357 Ruger GP100. Times sure have changed, and so has that neighborhood. Enjoy your purchase.

I like it. Good job.
I'm commemorating WW2 and the stock market crash in a few days. My # is coming up for USGI 1911 or 1911-A1 at the CMP. I hope it looks as used as your Colt.
