BRNO No. 4 target .22 Updated with Range Report
I like old school target rifles (center and rimfire) and old military rifles.
Last weekend I won a BRNO no.4 rifle at an online auction. Looks like it is good shape.

I got several rifles at one of those "300 gun" online auctions. Expecting them to arrive sometime this week and will post more detailed pictures and a range report.

I wanted one back in the Commie days, when they weren't imported. China made more or less exact copies of the hunting rifle, not the target rifle, and I owned a couple in the past. They were cheap when they first came out, back in the 80s, and you could find them at gunshows for $75, IIRC. They had very ugly refrigerator-white stocks, I guess a native Chinese wood. We used to refer to them as "Chinos." No plastic on them except the butt plate. The two I owned were accurate, but a friend of mine's gun was awful. I stained the stocks on mine.
I did get a Brno Fox .22 Hornet through a brief loophole that allowed them to be imported. It was a good rifle after bedding, but the Commie wood work and fit and finish was disappointing. The current CZs, after the Communist party, are better.

NICE rifle. Always liked them, and yours looks like an excellent example, and I bet it will shoot.
Gene L - Below is one of the Chinese (Norinco) BRNO copies you are talking about. Picked it up in the early 80's, and it actually was a nice rifle - accurate and reliable. Something like $75.00 new, if I remember right.

That is a very nice one.
I’m on the look out for one also. I just have a Model 1 made in 1950. I got it from Numrich @ 30 some years ago. They used to send out flyers to FFL customers when they had a few firearms to sell. (It was $95.00 and well worth it.)
It was a training rifle and unfortunately I removed the decals and painted Czech writing on the stock by refinishing it. But it finished great. The blueing is still perfect and deep.
I think all CZ’s are as extremely well made as they are accurate. Well, at least the “older” ones anyway.

The rifle shot great with cci std and wolf match. I used to put dimes on the copy machine and make targets. Only had a 25 yd range, but it would tear the heart out of that dime target. The win cb's would group well under 20yds, but that was about it. Also had some occasional flyers. I got a ultra lux 28" bbl and move the scope over to it. Now using cci quiet segmented that really group well. Min of squirrel.

Thanks, guys!
The rifles that I got at the auction all arrived at my FFl yesterday and all of them look great. The BRNO model 4 was in particularly nice shape and came in its original box. It honestly looks like it has never been fired, as does a Model 70 target rifle that I got at the same auction.
I'll take some better pictures when the 10 day "cooling off" period is over.
But here is a pic of the "bits" included with the rifle.

The CZ-452 evolved out of the BRNO rifles. Here is mine with original BRNO aperture sights:

I had one of the NOrincl copies, and modified the stock, worked over the safety that was so hard to move you almost couldn't, re-crowned the muzzle, and put a small scope on it. Was a fun project back about 25 years ago. It shot great especially with "hot" ammo. There was a time when you could get Winchester Aussie that was about 1400 fps, and it loved it. Somewhere I still have about a half a brick of that, but the rifle went to auction a couple years ago.

Thanks, Calfed!
Its a stock Military Trainer model with beechwood stock. It needs a bit of trigger work, a bit gritty. I need to get it out to the range soon.

JayFramer, if you have not been there, go over to Rimfirecentral and look under the CZ/Brno section. THose guys can tell you how to take the gritty out of that trigger. Cheap and easy.

I meant to shoot this sooner, but just now got around to it.
50 yds with Lapua Midas+. First shot ("cold bore") went through the center of the target. Next 5 were slightly lower.

Nice shooting gun, had a few BRNO guns and they were accurate, well built and reliable. Now chasing sub 1/4” groups and I think you nailed some. Sweet, Larry
