My first few years of hunting as a pre-teen was with my grandfather's Winchester 94 with 20 inch barrel in .32 Winchester Special. Not sure where that rifle ended up when my grandfather passed, but I always wanted a model 94 of my own.

I now have two, one in the ubiquitous .30-30 Winchester, but my favorite is a 16 inch 94AE in .357 magnum. With over 7.5 million model 94's manufactured by Winchester I'm betting they are a favorite rifle of a lot of people.

I’m a fan. I have my Uncle’s pre64 32spl that he killed hi s bear with. An XTR 30-30 he gave me for putting a pasture fence for him. A 1917 20in short rifle take down 30wcf. And a 16in trapper 44mag. The trapper was the starter gun for my buddies 5 kids. They each took at least one deer apiece with it. I love lever guns.

Definitely a fan here. I'm even a bigger fan of the 9422, beautiful and accurate rifles!

I have one in 30-30 caliber....made in about 1974 I think. Love lever action rifles. The '94 is a classic, for sure.

I'm a fairly unhandy guy so I don't do a lot of tinkering with my guns but I did put a Williams peep sight on this rifle and that sight stood me in good stead the day I had two whitetails standing still on a rise around 85 or 100 yards in front of me.......

I still have this rifle and one very much older that somebody rebarreled into a .25-35 long before I acquired it. It's a straight shooting tack driver! No picture for you though.

I had an Angle Eject in .44 Magnum for a while and three other older .30-30s including a Trapper model. Times change and my need for these changed so they all got liquidated.

I have three a 9422XTR, 9422M 22WMR and a 30-30. The 9422XTR is by far my favorite .22 rifle of all.

I have one in .44 mag.

Congratulations AWESOME gun it is for sure a keeper!!!!!....,I never had a Model 94 Winchester, but I had two Model 92 though, one was manufactured in New Haven in 1915 in .44-40 caliber and 20" barrel the other one was from 1918 in .44-40 caliber too, I cant remember series "505--- "had heat treated the internal parts and barrel and allowed me to shoot "hot" .44-40 reloads of 200grains sjsp bullets close to .44 Magnum ballistics in a revolver!!!.. My father and I shot accurately resting the gun up to 100yds with this two carbines, I am a great enthusiast of lever guns I also owned for some years a 1979 Marlin 336 in .30-30 caliber 20" barrel, gave it away as a gift to a friend of mine ,and I presently own a Rossi puma John Browning´s 1892 design in .44 Magnum 20" barrel, it is a very accurate carbine up to 50-75yds with standard sights (5 shot groups in 2.5" at this distance), when I bought this gun Winchester was out of business, at that time I was looking for a Winchester trapper 16" barrel in .44 Magnum caliber, Winchester did not have Marubeni facilities. Today I still want one Winchester Model 94 AE in any of this three calibers, .30-30, or .357 caliber or .44 mag caliber!!!!.. may be used in mint condition!!!!...

I take it out and shoot it, but I will tell you that
I am very very careful with it. It is very Accurate.

I have a Friend into Lever Actions, we were talking
about it and he was telling me to hang on to it.
He said you'll never find another one, that's a $1000 Rifle.

Wow, I had no idea. I like my Revolvers/Pistols.

P.S. I have a circa '90's Marlin Trapper also in the same condition.

Ok , I'll play . I have 3 " 94's " . My uncle gave me my first when I was about 30 . It had been in the family for many many yrs . It's chambered in 38-55 , has a long octagon barrel and according to the serial # , it was made in the early part of 1897 . It has taken quite a few deer . I cast and reload for it . I always wanted one in 30-30 . I found one recently , made in 1947 . I had a bolt gun in 303 that I didn't shoot much so I did a little trading and brought the Winchester home . I'm casting my own bullets for it . The Lyman 311046 mold . I also have a 9422 in 22LR . It was given to me . It had spent a lot of yrs as a truck gun and has quite bit of cosmetic wear . It still shoots very accurately . I really like lever guns . Regards, Paul

I love lever guns, have mostly Henrys in .22, .223, .30-30 and .410.

I do have a 94 in .30-30 that was given to me by my stepdad. He had it since he was a kid and was given to him by his father. It is a transitional gun, made in early '64. It is well used but priceless to me.

I also have a 336 in .30-30, first gun I ever bought myself when I turned 18.

I stumbled into one several months ago - a 1954 issue chambered in 30-30 - it is a beautiful piece pf work.....

I have a 1939 (or was it 1936?) M94 30-30 that I went to town on before I knew any better. Had it reblued, added a peep sight, and had the stock checked and oil finished. Looks fabulous, but in retrospect I should have left it alone. It was all just honest wear.

Ah, a purist. They made real ones after 1963, they just used different manufacturing techniques. Winchester ceased machining both the receiver and some small parts of the Model 94 out of solid steel billet as of 1964. Sintered steel was used on the receiver, stamped sheet metal for the cartridge lifter, and hollow rather than solid steel roll pins used in the action. While the rifle's function, safety, and accuracy were not adversely affected, the changes were not well received by the market. Even so, they're still real Winchesters.

Had Winchester not made these changes, they would likely have gone out of business in 1965. It's also interesting to note that CNC-machined parts and solid pins were reintroduced to production guns in 1992.

I inherited my Dad's 94AE. He intended to buy a .357 revolver to go along with it, but he never got around to it.

You should talk to relatives and try to locate your Grandpa's rifle. That is a real heirloom.

I have my Grandpa's double barrel shotgun - the only gun he ever had.

I went into my LGS around 4 years ago and spotted a "94" with a price tag of $550. I couldn't get my wallet fast enough. Every time I go to the range I take it along. I just love sending lead down range!!!!

in my youth i had no use for lever guns . quite a few years back Dad said he would like to have 1 in 35 remington to replace the one that got away . i bought an older Marlin carbine and a period correct weaver scope . put em together and killed a little buck with it . i was loving on it with a little oil and rag in front of Dad at camp . he asked to look at it and said "i would like to have 1 like that "
so i gave it to him which i planned to do the whole time. HE really loved that carbine . i have it now as Dad has passed . i was hoping i never got it back but you can't dodge the reaper forever . miss you Dad.

i helped a friend liquidate his guns after he was diagnosed with cancer . he gave me a mdl 94 30 -30 he had had since he was a boy for helping him . i also wish it still belonged to him . miss you David .

never cared for lever guns or revolvers and have had many go though my hands . something changed as i got older and am crazy for both . i have 5 or 6 or ?? lever guns ,both marlin and winchester in multiple calibers and quite a few revolvers of which only 2 are just revolvers that may go never know .

my Smiths and lever guns are staying untill the end . kenny

I have a '94 that I purchased from the auto shop teacher at my first teaching job. It's a 1927 vintage Model 94 in 25-35. The bore is dark but it's still good for deer within a hundred yards!

Looking for a '92 now.

Re:9422. YES!!! Have one. Bought by my brother in 1985. Two years ago he got it out and was going to trade it for a 9mm pistol. I got him a real nice G-19 and a S&W 15-22 w/ nine magazines and a couple of bricks of ammo. He gave me the 9422. Wonderful rifle. So very glad it stayed in the family. One day he may want it back. That'll be fine. But so very very glad it didn't get traded off! Sincerely. bruce.

After 1963 Winchester was nothing but a trademark that has been jacked around between corporations since. Same story for about all the major gun companies. Winchester was the 1st to go under because they couldn’t compete with their degree of hand work.

I have a 94AE I purchased in 2015. It was made in 2014. Love the rifle. It is a .44 Mag. I took the scope off as I am not going to hunt with it.

True, But when USRA took over Winchester their quality improved somewhat then later went back into the *******. I was a Winchester lever gun fan until 1999. Bought a timber carbine in 444 Marlin. It self destructed twice. The forend slid forward a like a pump gun. EVERYTHING got loose. Sent it back. They returned it with a cracked stock. Sent it back. Started same stuff upon return....Sold it. 94 action is not designed for big cartridges.....Bought a Win. pack rifle in 30/30. Consistantly snapped on various ammo. Sent it back. They "polished" the firing pin. SOS. Sold and converted to Marlin leverguns from .22/44 mag/30-30/35 Rem/444/ 45-70........NEVER had any problems with them.....Then Rem bought them and they went in the *******.
I enjoy my old Winchesters. 9422/30-30/30-06(1895)/44 mag/45LC.
As to the last New Haven 94's...........Cavet Empor.

I have several but this one is a bit unusual. Button magazine carbines were fairly common before the war, but this is the only post-war button magazine I have ever seen. This was built in 1949. I was amazed to discover how the balance changes with half the magazine tube gone. Very quick, it handles almost like a fine ahotgun.

Everybody could shoot

I only have one Model 94. It's the venerable 30-30, made in 1918 with factory ladder sights and is a saddle ring carbine. Shoots like a dream but these days only gets used to punch paper. Wouldn't trade it for anything.

As I said in the cowboy guns thread, other than revolvers, lever actions are my favorite guns. Years ago every pawn shop I went in had several lever action on the rack and some were real gems. I looked at my inventory and it looks like I currently have eighteen Winchester lever actions with twelve being 94's in five different calibers. The majority (seven) are in .30-30. Here are a few photos.

I have the family heirloom that has come down from my great grandfather through each successive generation. It still shoots great and is in good condition, but about ready for a good maintenance cleaning. The barrel is marked 94-30 WCF.

Around 2002 I found one in Big 5 and decided on the pre-Remington Marlin 44 instead for $300. Although I'm glad now that I did I still lust after the Winchester. I think it is no longer made?

I love my lever actions. I have a model 1894 Deluxe Rifle with a 28" octagon barrel from around the turn of the century that my Uncle gave me when I turned old enough to hunt deer in Michigan. Later, I got my Dad's Model 55, which is a take down version of the 94. Then, I got my Brother-in-law's model 94 when he passed away. All of them are in 30-30. I would still like to find one in 32 Special.

Do commemorative Model 94s count. I have an NRA Centennial rifle (not the musket) made in 1971. Original box. Dad won it in a raffle way back and gave it to me in 1992 when he retired and moved to Las Vegas. Dad was not a hunter or gun guy. I have never shot it. It is a beautiful rifle and I really can't sell it for sentimental reasons. I hope to gift it to my nephew sometime in the future.

I have two. A pre-'64 in 32spl and a Trapper carbine in 44mag.

My shooting bud has a 1978 one in 30-30. He shoots it with open sights and it's impressively accurate.

My first deer way back when(16 yo) was with a 32 special carbine.

Over the course of time I have owned about 20 94s

The only 94s I now own are oldies. I have a saddle ring carbine (1917)in 30 WCF and a 1898 94 octagon rifle half length magazine in 32.40.

I am a fan of Winchester 94's as well! I have issue with these guns finish due to the sintered steel receivers. Winchester found out that the traditional bluing process did not take well to sintered steel receivers and was forced to add a layer of iron based something over the receiver prior to final polish and blue. A typical result of that was freckling and rusting on the receivers even with regular firearms care, wipe downs and oiling etc.
I recently acquired a late 70's early 80's mfg. Winchester 94 hoping to find one without the finish issues and found the receiver was flaking and rusting. Sold it off so the search continues.

No one took over Winchester. They took over the company name and designs. The original Winchester Co. died in 1963. There is a book about the Winchester Company and it’s operating methods. It is a hard read but I forced myself through it. Read this book and you will wonder how they lasted as long as they did.

I passed down the 1954 produced 94 ..30-30 Dad gifted me when I was 13. That 94 will stay in the family. Since then, I picked up a 1967 Canadian Centennial .30-30 with a 24 inch octagonal barrel simply because I've always loved Winchester lever actions. I also own a Miroku built Winchester1873 in .357 magnum.

I have a 1958 30-30 model 94, A 1968 30-30 model 94. A 1976 30-30 model 94. It was my stepdads a guy he worked with found it in the seat springs in a old pickup he got. My stepdad got it from him and polished it to bare metal because it had light rust on it.. I took it years later and had a gunsmith parkerize it since the receiver couldn't be reblued. I added a Williams receiver sight to it. Now my first lever gun was a 30-30 marlin 336c when I was 13 still got it

I have three. A standard 20" .30-30 Carbine and a pair of 16" Trappers in .44 Magnum and .45 Colt.

I also have an early 1978 9422XTR. This was before they checkered the stocks. I like it better with the smooth wood.

Also fond of Winchester copies with an early (pre-safety) Rossi 92 in .357 Magnum and a beautiful Browning 1886 .45-70.

94 in 3030 was the 1st gun I bought on my own. I bought it in 1976 and shot my 1st deer with it on 1/1/77. Started the year off right!
