My favorite Ruger 22 is my old Mark I. The Mark II would be a very close second with the Marks III and IV of no interest to me. Were I to buy another Ruger 22 today I would look for a good used I or II and if none around I would go for a Single Six.

My MKII was a horrible pistol when I first bought it. It would jam on the feed ramp, and more often, it would trap the empty brass before it could clear the action. But I'd had Ruger's before, so I knew it was repairable. It made 3 trips back to Ruger, and the 3rd trip I requested a new gun, which I got.

I took it, and my then fiance, along with a brick of 22's out to the farm and told her we were going to shoot the entire box, and if it jammed, I was getting rid of it. By the time we finished that brick of ammo, she had started calling it "my gun". (not sure how that happened) But it never missed a lick.

My eyes got to where I couldn't see the sights so good and I added a cheapo red dot, which helps a lot. I'll never let it go, and my now wife won't either. She still calls it "my gun".

The only malfunctions I’ve ever had were magazine related. Sliding the follower up and down rapidly for about 5!minutes wore them in and problem gone. Really great guns.

In 1999 I must have sensed that change was coming to the Ruger automatic pistol because I bought these four Mark IIs, new, that year:
