Lee, what was the reason for the previous condition of those two lovely guns. I just have to ask! Nice job on the clean-up but why?

Tom, they were left unattended in a tool box for an unknown number of years. the rest of his collection was in a safe and in great condition according to his son. knowing the original owner i can't imagine why they were ever put there. lee

Very good job bringing them back from the brink, Lee. They look very much better than when they were brought to you.

A great combat semi-auto is a terrible thing to waste. Either one would be a comfort if the SHTF. Appreciate your skills, OP, and what you've accomplished!

He did, but in another thread. I agree with you though, because the 'before' pics were really gnarly and seeing the 'after' pics is most impressive.

A SxS would really be impressive!

That is quite a transition. I had cringed when I saw the original post, just hoping they could be cleaned up decent. You did a great job.

Good job!

John, it is what Colt called "electroless nickle". they looked great until holstered a few times. not what i would call a durable finish. lee

I saw the "before" pics. Still wondering if I need therapy to deal with that... It was like looking at a poor dog that had been mutilated by a psycho!

Lee, you deserve warmest congratulations. As in your prior job...Aim High, Air Force!

Saw the previous condition. Good work was done here.

Only thing I wonder about is the condition of the internals, to include springs.

Great job. Now inquiring minds would like to know.

What product(s) and methods did you use to obtain those great results?

after two days of soaking all internals and barrels, just WD-40+bronze wool+elbow grease(lots) and all the rust was gone. the Hi Power frame and slide were then cleaned with alcohol, dried, heated with a heat gun(on low), then touched up with G-96 where the rust had gone thru the finish. most of the rust on the HP was surface and came off rather easily, as did all of it on the Colt. lee

My son carries an M1 Carbine in the field and it is so muddy it gets coated daily on any piece of equipment—yet it never fails to fire. We took a can of WD 40 and “hosed” it down, stock and all, blew it off with an air compressor, wiped it down with a grease rag and more WD 40. Then lightly oiled the action and metal parts. Good as new.

WD-40 is a miracle solvent.

I've never had an electroless nickel firearm, but my partner had an Officer's Model back in the early 80s. At that time, the finish was being touted as the toughest, most durable finish, and since the only other factory finishes Colt offered at the time were blue and shiny nickel, I guess I believed them. Partner's pistol never showed wear. I didn't care for the looks of EN, grainy and had a yellow tint I didn't like.

They cleaned up well!

The thing I like about a refurb/trade-in/etc. gun is that you can thoroughly enjoy it for what it is and not worry about destroying its value with a scratch or wear.
