Default 45 ACP semi automatic pistols

Well we have a thread on 9mms and a couple other groupings. I figured to start one so we could show off our 45ACP's.

I don't own too many these days (at least compared to my 9mm collection), but I try to go for the finest. Quality over quantity, so to speak...

Rock River Arms Limited Match - probably my best shooting 1911

Springfield Professional - Definitely an icon at this point.

Springfield TGO1 - Springfield's finest 1911

Colt National Match - from 1967 just before the Gold Cup designation

USFA 1911 - Rare and top quality

Valtro 1998A1 - Rare as hen's teeth these days, but very well made

Pistol Dynamics Signature - Paul Liebenburg at his very best

Now for some other fine 45 ACP's outside the 1911 realm.

Smith & Wesson 845 - An early Performance Center model and possibly my best shooting 45 ACP

Smith & Wesson 945 - Another Performance Center gem. Much more 1911-like than the 845.

Sig Sauer P220 Sport - Steel frame and a compensator. Very accurate pistol

AJ Ordnance Thomas - Very rare, but high quality American 45ACP. A bit harsh to shoot, being blowback and small.

ASAI One Pro - A Swiss gem loosely based on the CZ 75.

Delta AR Top Gun - Ultra rare piece of Italian art. This early example has an aluminum frame and nickel finish.

Delta AR Top Gun - This is the steel frame model, which is next to impossible to find. Most are aluminum.

Korriphila HSP701 - One of the very finest pistols to ever come out of Germany (or anywhere) and extremely rare. Saving the best for last...

I'm sure some of you have many more than I. Let's see them!

Colt Series 70 Gold Cup.

Colt Series 80 Government Model.

Colt's Govt. Model with Colt's ,22 conversion:
45 ACP semi automatic pistols-dscf1526-jpg

A few that go to the range together pretty often.
Best shooter (for me) is the Sig Ultra Compact.

Question, the photo of the 5 pistols in the center is a Colt System (DGFM) made in Argentina?

The SISTEMA COLT pistol was manufactured in Argentina under the COLT license and I have read that the COLT factory sent some of its technicians to supervise its production in Argentina.
These pistols together with the BALLESTER MOLINA are an example of a time when things were made to last, the proof is that today they continue to shoot and they do it well.

This is a Custom Comp from Colt's Custom Shop circa 1979. The grips are ivory which were added.

Here's mine. I have two Colts, both have been customized

A series 80 Colt Gold Cup. By this time the Gold Cup was nothing special, just a GM with adjustable sights and a wide trigger. BUT, a friend had this built up by Jack Best into a fully accurized Bullseye gun, then decided it was Wilson or nothing for him. Kart bbl & bushing, fitted slide and frame. I put the beavertail on myself, and that is an old Behlert drop in hammer and sear set. I have the Ransom Rest test target (that's NOT it in the pic), the gun shoots far better than I could ever shoot it

He sort of took me along with him. Here is my Wilson Super Grade comp gun. This was from back in the day when you actually sent a gun to Wilson, and Bill himself and about half a dozen other guys worked their magic. And you waited. And waited. Basically they did the top end and frame checkering. Again I did beavertail, and that one has McCormick titanium fire control parts, plus I did the ambi safety. It was my bowling pin gun from back when we used to shoot pins

How about an American made 80S 1911 never fired. About $185 new.

I’ve got to admit I do like .45acp’s. My first pistol was an old GI 1911 that my brother in law, (LE,) sold me at 17 yrs old. First cartridge I ever reloaded for. I learned lots and at that age it was very impressionable. To say the least.

I don’t have too many of my Colts in .45 anymore, but I still have a couple, plus some “off brand” ones too.

I have one.
It's a early production ( 4 digit serial number) made by Colt in USA.
Last I looked ( and iirc) she was made in 1927. She still shoots great!

Not new and shiny, but it has been true and faithful. I've posted this "United States Property" marked 1911 before. It came to me through DCM sales in 1961. An uncle gave me the old wood grips to replace the plastic ones Rock Island put on it when they rebuilt/refinished it.

It was built to be a soldier's sidearm, and, even though both of us have long since been retired, it remains one.

The Combat Commander has taken over as the every day carry. After a hundred years, the old war horse has too much sentimental value to risk it sitting in an evidence locker while they try to figure out if some thug deserved the shooting he got.

Here's my last 1911 in 45ACP. It's an Ed Brown Custom that's about 20+ years old built on a frame by Les Baer before Ed started making his own.
The snakewood grips were added.

I enjoy these: Clark heavy long slide built on a Colt Series 70, S&W's 745, 845, and 945-1.

If you are interested in knowing something more about your weapon, send me the data, such as inscriptions on the slide and the serial number and I will try to inform you of some extra information such as the possible year of manufacture.

Some decent enough guns on this board, but few compare to this:

This my glock 45. This my problem solver.

I wanted a Thomas soooo bad when I was a young man. Used to buy the Gun Digest every year and pick out everything I wanted. Always thought a suppressed Thomas would be a hoot.

They are high quality pistols, but not at all pleasant to shoot. The delayed blowback system is fairly ineffective and it’s almost like shooting a straight blowback 45.

The Korriphila also pictured has a great delayed blowback system and is much easier to shoot.

My 45s, not 1911 to be seen.

The group for size comparison.

45 ACP semi automatic pistols-steves45s_01-jpg

Star Megastar in Starvel. Nearly 3 lbs of steel. A semi for Yosemite Sam, even Bill Ruger would call it overbuilt. Fewer than 5500 made, some were blued and IIRC less than 1000 were also made in 10 mm.

Sarsilmaz SARK2 45. A Turkish take on the CZ 97. Takes 14 round mags. The black paint finish is a bit delicate, sadly.

XD Tactical. These were available at fire sale prices at CDNN for months. Eventually I caved.

Some beautiful .45ACP 1911's here. I've had three. Down to two now as I sold my first one to buy a 9mm 1911.

Ruger SR1911

Ruger 1911 CMD A

Rock Island M1911-A1 CS

and the SR1911 9mm

Default All I've got are old "hero" 45's (1 left in the safe)

No two-tones, no stainless, no match grade anything, sights hardly worth a hoot, no fancy grips, all are (were) correct and original. Colt, Remington-Rand, Sistema Argentine all gone to other collectors. Lonely Ithaca remains...

No trophy winners here...…….just old hero guns.....would love to have heard their stories from those that carried them wherever, and whenever.

Love(d) them all.

Sorry for the crummy pics, but these old warhorses are camera shy and prefer no lighting....they don't want to expose their scars and warts.
