USFA .44-40 SAA
I sent this gun to Nutmeg Sports and had them install one piece Giraffe bone grips on it. Emily, the lady who did the work, did an outstanding job.

Those are gorgeous . The lady did a fine job . I didn't know anything like that was available . As far as the cartridge , 44-40 . I do reload it . It's not a difficult round to reload , just requires attention to a couple of details . You have a fine revolver there . I hope you enjoy it , and shoot it , a lot . Regards Paul

$589.00 which included shipping back to me, plus The cost to ship the gun to them. I think that was around $90.00.

Thanks. I knew that they were not going to be cheap but quality and beauty are worth it.

Beautiful sixgun and wonderful looking grips. That USFA is already gorgeous and those grips really enhance the looks.

Very nice. That giraffe bone looks remarkably like ivory.

Thanks for sharing, Bill. That is a spectacular gun. I've been thinking about Nutmegs for years now. Several times I was going to have them do ivory for me, back when that was possible, but always spent the money on some other gun project. I've looked at the giraffe bone option, and boy, yours sure does look like Ivory!! What a great job Emoly dos fitting!!
Best Regrds, Les

I have a 4 3/4" .44 Special USFA, blue/CC. I had a .44-40 cylinder that dropped right in.

Do you .44-40 fans ever get a stuck cartridge or one swelling and impeding reloading the gun?
I've read that the tapered case can cause that on firing. But haven't read it about the .38-40, where the problem seems even more likely.

I've never had that problem. In addition to my USFA, I have owned a M544 .44-40, a Colt New Service in .44-40 and a New Service in .38-40.
I believe the secret is keeping the chambers clean and oil free.

I ordered .427" bullets for reloading the .44-40, but then realized the bore diameter is .429". The cylinder throats were .427", so I had them sized to .429". I have to be very careful when loading .430" bullets in the .44-40 cases.
I'll use the .427" bullets until they are all used up, but I'm not expecting good accuracy.

You will be surprised of the accuracy of the .427's. However, if the loads are not accurate, it may not be the .427's, it could be something else.
