How hot will you load that? I think a 250 grain Keith bullet at 900 FPS is enough, except in bear country. Or, maybe enough for Bigfoot.

If that .44 shoots to the sights, I think you'll be very happy with it.

Nice gun! I have one just like it, still NIB. My maternal grandfather carried one at the turn of the 20th Century, but regretfully, my grandmother disposed of it somehow. She should have consulted with me, but I suppose she can be forgiven; I was only 5 at the time he died.

Beautiful! I have a few single action revolvers, and a few colts, and a few .44 specials, but not one Colt .44 Single Action

I'm thinking 7.5 grains of Unique behind a 240 grain cast SWC.

Would also like to get Mammoth Ivory or a nice set of wood stocks for it, or maybe Elk Antler too. One piece of course.

.44 Special is a GREAT (perhaps the best) caliber in the SAA. Here's my 1960 vintage 2nd gen.

Best regards,

Very nice Doc44. What are the stocks on the Nickle Colt?
I may be able to get some Mammoth Ivory stocks for mine.

A classic combination. Here is my 3rd. Generation that was made in 1982. I go easy with the handloads in this one. 6 grains of Unique with a 250 grain cast SWC works well, I save the Skeeter loads for my Ruger Bisley and S&W Model 24-3.

Nice one! Here's some .44 specials. A pearl handled 1992 with a 4 3/4" barrel, a 1958 and a 1900 Bisley. The Bisley has an original .44 prewar cylinder with an unmarked barrel a friend gave me. I have the original .32-20parts stasged away.

My standard load is 6.4 grain Unique over store bought lead SWCs 215 to 240 grains. I just use the little powder Scoop that came in my old Lee Loader which is that weight. I bought the Lee Loader right after buying a new 4” Model 24-3 in 1983.
