Default The Guns of Suhl

Warning: No English!

I came across this on Youtube incidentally. It is a half-hour documentary by the regional German TV station MDR about the gun-making traditions, history, and current state of affairs in the East German arms making center of Suhl.

It covers everything, from Olympic competition guns to AKs to fine combination hunting guns.

Even if you do not understand a word, you might enjoy the historical photos and the extensive footage of true craftsmen at work, the gunsmiths and the engravers in the workshops where they still make guns costing tens of thousands of Euros today.

I've got a 1910 Suhl made Mauser, 8mm J bore. It's a fine rifle, not engraved but all original. I got it cheap from a LGS who thought it was a post-WW2 rework. I thought so to until I researched it.

I watched that a while ago and had found it when I researched some BUEHAG firearms. This documentary is interesting for people interested in firearms but watching news and documentaries from a variety of different countries is giving a much broader insight into many different subjects.
