Default Star M30

Picked this Star 30M up a couple weeks back,
Most reviews seemed good.
Haven't got to try it out yet, its seems sturdy.
Google says military & police gun.

I have one. Built like a tank. It is a full size, fairly heavy service pistol. Not one that you would tuck into the waistband of a pair of sweatpants when you go out for a carton of milk. But it is accurate and reliable. There used to be an ad in the gun magazines which is reprinted in Antaris' Star book about a pair of them in use as rental guns at a range in Northridge CA that each had in excess of 75,000 rounds through them and were still going strong. I believe it.

I have one. Bought it new back in the late 80s. It was stolen once, I got it returned a few years later.

Mine in a 30MI. Nobody seems to know what the 'I' stamp signifies.

The pistol is one of the 80s "wondernines". Very accurate, very robust. A big chunk of steel.

I actually carried it for a few years in a shoulder holster, under a shirt or light jacket.

Nope. the Megastar was an even more overbuilt pistol in 10mm or 45 ACP. I think about 5400 were made. They weigh three pounds unloaded.

Star's pistols were, as noted above, solid/robust, and reliable.

DumpStick, there was some discussion over on the Gunboards Forums/Spanish Pistols Board about the guns marked 30MI and the information was that they were overruns from a contract to India.

Default Who sells them

Hi all
It has been reported on gunboards the seller should have more 30M star 9MM.
He is on gunsinternational i have no affiliation with the seller.
Nice gun for the price, mags are not cheap.
Good luck

I think it was my first semi-automatic pistol. New. Still have it. Calling it a tank is an understatement. Could not even begin to guess how many rounds through it.
Great shooter, great trigger on it.
Depending on condition $245 is a good price.

I saw those... James Wayne Firearms, right?

I have 2 already, and still almost bought another at that price.

For that, it's an absolute steal. It rivals my Beretta in terms of smooth slide action, and it's great to practice dry firing on safe (it rotates the firing pin out of the way, so the hammer hits nothing). There's a magazine safety, that if removed (I haven't done it), allows for using S&W mags.

Congrats on a great deal!

On a lark, I bought my Star BM (Not BM 30) at at gun show for $160 back when. Once oiled and cleaned it works real nice. A soild, pleasant shooter. A favorite of friends (surprises the experienced and comfortable for the newbies) who shoot my guns. Can't beat them for the price!

Have one of the last Stars made in 9 mm. Got a good deal on it since they were going out of business. Back then nobody wanted them?
Very well built handgun and it was a good shooter but to me way to heavy to carry.
Still have it and never regretted buying it! 😉

I had a Model 28 the forerunner of the 30. The Spanish military picked them up for about 10 years, then Star went out of business. Great guns.

I wonder if the 30MI is maybe slightly different than the very similar Star pistols. I say this because my 30MI absolutely will not take and lock-in place a S&W magazine. Not a 5906 mag or an earlier 59/659 magazine. It wouldn’t with the magazine disconnect in place, and it also absolutely will not with the magazine disconnect removed.

Even if you push it 100% of the way in and hold it with your off hand palm, an empty S&W mag will not lock the slide open.

In almost every Star Model 30 discussion on the internet, it gets stated that a S&W magazine will work after you remove the mag disconnect but absolutely not in my 30MI.

The S&W magazine wont work in my 30M
I read you have to tweak the mag catch hole?
I have no magazine safety.

I've owned a few over the years. All were pretty good pistols; IMO much better than the Spanish Llama.

Being in Commiefornia I have to rely on aftermarket magazines with a 10 round capacity for my Star 30M. I have a couple of ProMags that work fine, but they did need to have the little tab on the side that trips the mag safety thinned just a hair before the mag would insert and drop free without binding but still trip the lever. I have never tried a S&W Model 59 mag as they are not legal for sale here. I did consider removing the mag safety as I generally detest them but didn't like how thin the frame area appeared with the part removed.

I remember reading on Gunboards that the 30MI was meant for Iraq. When Saddam invaded Kuwait and the first Gulf War started, Star cancelled the order and sold the pistols on the surplus market.
I had one and it was a great shooter. I haven't seen one for sale in years

Modern Star pistols are some of the most well made, robust, and reliable weapons ever made. I lived in the Basque region of Spain for a year, with a Basque-Spanish girlfriend. We visited the Firearms museum in Eibar, which had several Star firearms. The company had a long and distinguished pedigree, and the pistols were made from some of the finest Basque steel - the same steel covered by Spanish sword makers for their weapons.

You obtained a phenomenal pistol at an incredible bargain.

The Model B Super with the 5" barrel is even more accommodating for new shooters. It's the first proper caliber gun my wife shot and she was surprised how easy it was to handle.
