Default Plastic Stag grips on a Ruger 22 pistol

I have my dad's old Ruger .22 circa 1951 and it has always had the ugliest fake plastic stag grips on it. I have found a pair of standard black plastic grips for it to replace them with but before I trash the "stags" I thought I would ask if they are something special and worth a lot of money??? Sometimes stuff like this is and I just thought I would ask before I threw away some weird collectible worth lots on money

What brand are they? I recently saw a set of Franzite N frame "stags" sell for $25. I sure wouldn't trash them if my Dad had put them on a gun.

Why not keep them? Store them in the same place you keep your candy bar stash at home, they'll fit in there perfectly.

If they are Fitz and you are going to keep them put them on a piece of sheeting with wood screws and store them where there is no big temp changes. That franzite was made with some kind of dairy by product that will shrink and warp, and smell like puke. Also invites mold if stored in dark damp location.

I'd hold on to them if they were my fathers. Even if I thought they were junk, maybe my son would want them one day just based off the fact they were his grandfathers. You never know...

They are probably Jay Scott grips. I believe he is probably the most prolific plastic stag grip maker. That's pure anecdotal speculation on my part though.

If they are hollow backed they will be marked Fitz or Franzite on inside of grip. Fitz was bing deal back in 50s before J Scott and Armac. They are a lot nicer than Fitz and hold up under any condition I’ve come across. They are of solid construction.

I would say it is something very special ... your Dad liked them enough to keep them on the gun all these years , I would say they are Priceless.
I wouldn't sell or trash them , put them away in the box, maybe write all you know about them and keep to pass along with the gun to your son .
When you reach a certain age ...memories and old faux stag grips are all you have to remember the good times with . Don't throw them away ... they were your dad's
Keep them,
Gary

I personally like those old gaudy fake plastic stags. They just scream 1950’s goodness to me. It was a golden age. I’d find a coon skin cap and keep the stags.

My Dad's off duty carry was a Colt 1908 with Jay Scott faux stags. I switched them out for a factory pair but kept the old ones in my desk. I still have a pair mounted on his Colt Official Police. They look like the '50's. But if you want to sell them, they have a following on eBay.

My flatgate came with plastic Black Pearl grips. I was quite happy to put these Jay Scotts on it.

I like the way they look.

I like the fake stags on an old Ruger better than plastic grips

Back in "The Day" Rugers came from the factory with Stag Grips. I recall the Single Actions especially.

I have seen one Ruger, an original Blackhawk flat top with Ruger factory stag grips. Something that I have never seen yet is a Super Blackhawk in factory wood presentation case. I have seen Brass frames but wouldn’t be able to say they were original or after market.
