Default Short but good trip to range, Marlin rimfire related

A friend gave me a cheap scope for my Marlin 22LR, model 80 DL, that I've owned for 50 +/- years. I mounted it on the Marlin, went to the range a few days ago. The scope was a bust, foggy, couldn't focus it etc.

Took it back off yesterday and remounted my old Weaver 4x that I traded for or bought used sometime back in the dark ages. It was made in El Paso, TX and still a good but somewhat beatup scope.

Went to the range this morning for a short trip to sight in the scope. The groups got smaller, with the best results highlighted with the arrow. I think it measured .562 or 9/16" if you prefer. Not to bad for an old guy, with a old rifle and scope. 14 shots if you are counting. Why fourteen? Cause I have 2 magazines that hold (don't get ahead of me now) 7 rounds each. Sometimes I shake more than others. But today, I was encouraged.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

I have an old microgroove 80DL and an old weaver 4x scope too that I just replaced with a cheap tasco 3to9x. Shoots great,, but not as well as you shoot. It is a fun rifle to plunk with. I like the fact that the mags allow for use with shorts, longs and long rifle cartridges. I shoot Agulia Colibri .29gr in my suburban backyard without annoying my neighbors!

Great target which reflects a fantastic day at the range. I would print out that target and hang it in the reloading room. It is always fun to have days where the planets seem to align.

They are great rifles, the only negative I have found is the terrible trigger. I have changed out the springs, which helped some, but not much. It is much more accurate than I am. If you decide to throw that old Weaver away, send it my way.

I need to take some better photos of mine.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

Mine would do that, if I could. :-)

Ah the Model 80DL. My first rifle, complete with a 4x Marlin scope that was most likely manufactured by Weaver. Nice to see that you are still enjoying yours after all those years.

Default Were you the......

Were you the 'Marlin Man'??? Dat's good shootin'.

I got a .22 lever Henry for a 'fun gun'. It works and shoots great (offhand, open sights for me so no tiny groups even at 25).

Somehow my wife was able to make it malfunction about 8 out of 10 times. You know, you operate it by cocking it all the way forward and all the way back. Somehow I was able to point out about a dozen things she was doing wrong to cause it to malfunction, but she never caught on. I was happy though, because she DID go to the range with me and we had phun.
