It's My Wife's Fault...
We stopped by the LGS a couple of days ago. It was the first time I could get to the handgun counter without having to stand in line. I saw this 1966 Colt Trooper, in 38 Special, with the box, some of the papers, etc. I looked it over and was sorely tempted, but had them put it back.
Then my wife came along and ordered me to put it on layaway. "I'm not going to listen to you whine about how you should have bought that gun."
It is clean. Inside the box is a target with five 38 wadcutter holes that I could cover with my thumb. On the target is written, 30 ft, 12/27/1966. I can't prove it of course, but I think that may have been the last time it was fired. I'm not sure if I'll shoot it when I get it out of hock. I'm not one who has to shoot a gun to enjoy it.
I've seen Troopers in 357 before, and I knew they had been made in 38, but I don't think I've ever seen one.

That's a great find CB. For the first few years the Troopers were .38 Special due to the Model 3-5-7 being Colt's premium offering. When Colt did away with the 3-5-7 Model, the Trooper was then chambered for the .357 Magnum. Here's my first year (1954) .38 Special Trooper.

Nice Colt. I blame the better half here also but she just says I merely bought her a new firearm. I am glad and know I am lucky that I married a gal who likes guns as much as me if not more than me.

Congratulations. That is a very nice story. My wife has bought the vast majority of the guns that I have, which makes them special to me.

That is a very nice gun. It's just me, but I would not be able to put it away without shooting a few pieces of defenseless paper! But then, I don't own that many guns, so they're all shooters. But, after thinking about it, keeping a 54 year old gun looking brand new, maybe not.

I've been bitten by the "Prancing Pony" bug lately. I've pretty much avoided it all these years, but that darn new Python did it.

What a nice old Trooper! With the box and target no less! I had a 6" Trooper from the same era years ago, and now a 4" 3 5 7 model. Interesting old guns IMHO.

Sorry. It (and the Ferrari horse) has been a "Prancing Pony" as long as I've been around.

I'm surprised that I've not seen any inquiries regarding any single sisters your wife might have.

We could argue that all day in 8th grade English class! I didn't catch that statement like you did! But, at this stage of the game, for ME anyways, it really wouldn't matter, as long as I get to buy a gun once in a while! Good catch! To OP, great catch also! (On wife, 1st, and revolver 2nd! Had to be clear!)

Now you know, fellas!
I'm spoken for with a wife who thinks "Shoe collection? Gun collection? Seems fair" so I'm set.

Nice gun. Didn't realize they were initially in .38. I had the .357 version, with a 4" barrel that had a loud rapport. Bought it from an old timer who had two at a gun show; only had enough cash on me at the time for one, at the princely sum of $550.00.
