Default New grips on my K6s DA/SA

This is my second Kimber revolver. Own a 2" DAO with night sights for two years so I bought this 3" for trails and fishing in snake country. Great shooters, both of them. This one has the new Hogue Rubber Bantam on that really helps with recoil.

Is the backstrap covered with those grips?

That was really all that gun needed. Better or at least more grip options.

Malph, yes the backstrap is covered and it makes a world of difference. Very akin to the "Tamer" grips on the J magnums and airweights.

I tried the Altamonts, too skinny and fake checkering, also the VZs and just didn't like their fit, and the Hogue G10 Bantams. The G10s had a great feel but too small.

I have the Control Core grip from Kimber on my DAO and they are great for DA work but won't fit the DA/SA model. But I'm happy with these.

How is the trigger pull on these? Stacking? I am interested in getting one. Overall thoughts?

Just bought the control core grips also but haven’t fired it yet to see how they help with recoil. Have a 3” fixed sight version, really like the gun. Was lucky to find it and sold the 640 for the same price that the K6 cost. The DA/SA Target looks intriguing also. Waiting to see if .327 is in their future. Really like the trigger pull, easy to realign the sights before firing. Larry

Very smooth DA with no stacking just an audible click as you roll the cylinder. Easy to "stage" the trigger in DA 8-9 lbs, SA about 4-5 lbs and crisp.

Control Core is a vast improvement for fast controlled DA with hotter ammo, over every grip but the new Hogue rubber Bantam, IMHO.

As soon as I saw this thread I went and ordered those grips, as a backstrap-covering soft grip is just what I've been waiting for. Unfortunately, Kimber has yet to process my order after a week and a half. The website says I ordered them, but that's it.

I've both read, and seen a YouTube video, that the grip frames for the DASA and concealed hammer models are slightly different and the grips do NOT interchange. Perhaps the members looking for custom grips might ask the suppliers and/or check the Kimber website.

My Control Core grips arrived yesterday, they're made by Crimson Trace. They fit perfectly, but you need a very small T6 Torx driver to put them on. I figure they use such a small screw so you can't overtighten it. They seem to do what I wanted - allow a higher grip that is less likely to slip down upon recoil. The awkward grip is what made me put my K6S in the safe, but if it shoots well I may put it back in rotation.

I find the trigger on the Kimber is remarkably similar to the one on my SP101 with regard to staging. The ONLY thing the Kimber offers over my SP101 is the extra shot. Given the dearth of gunfights I have been involved in that resulted in shooting more than 5 shots, I really don't thing buying one in light on my current inventory is justified. Although for some reason at this time a single shot .45-70 is Go figure......

Your SP101 must have be way nicer than the ones I used to have. I got rid of those as soon as I'd experienced the S&W J-frame trigger. But I find the K6S trigger so nice that I wish every gun had it. I guess I'm always in search of something a little better. That said, I seem to keep going back to my 3" GP100 as an all-around nice mid size revolver, despite the relative merits of the K-frame. There's just something about it.

I tried out the new K6S grips at the range and they work great. I plan to keep them on the gun. The only weird thing is they’re hollow and tapping them makes a hollow cheap plasticky sound. I can ignore that.

Finally fired one cylinder full with the control core grips and it was much better. Highly recommended, Larry

I like your new grips. They look like they would soften the 357's sharp recoil a decent amount.

I know this is an old post and some other folks have responded, but my recommendation is to definitely try a K6S before you buy. I can imagine that some S&W enthusiasts will not like the trigger.

I love my K6S snubbie, it has become my primary pocket gun. I would say the trigger reminds me of a slightly tighter, slightly smoother, slightly shorter LCR trigger. IMO the K6S design has more in common with a Ruger than a Smith, but it's not nearly as clunky as Rugers tend to be. FWIW, I have two Rugers that I love, but IMO they are just not as refined as a S&W or the K6S.

The trigger on the K6 does not stack. It's a good trigger. It's closer to but not exactly the same as a K frame trigger.

I think whoever designed this thing borrowed elements from the Ruger Sp101, Smith 640 and Colt Detective (cylinder size).

It's a really good revolver but of course doesn't have the classic looks of a Smith or Colt.
