For me 2 come to mind. In the early 90's I sold a 45ACP Colt Combat Commander and a 45ACP S&W 6" revolver.

In the early 80's, I traded a 1970 Armalite AR-7 for an ES 335 dot neck. Even though I sold the guitar years later for a chunk, I wouldn't mind having the gun back.

Regrets, I’ve had a few...

I sold a Colt Match Ten for five bills after buying it for $450. I thought I got a nice fifty bucks and went on with my life.
This was when they were ONLY going for $1100 on GB.
I sold a Browning Lever .22, the Micro Midas version to a guy I knew who was looking for a rimfire rifle.
He put a polymer stock on it and tossed the beautiful walnut in the trashbin.
I only regret selling it to him. Selling to a proper gentleman would have been better.

But, then again, too few to mention?

I've got 3 big regrets. I'd love to still have my Virginia State Police issued Model 64 4", my Sig Emperor Scorpion that I converted to 460 Rowland with a Clark Custom Guns kit, and my Sig P220 10mm Match Elite reverse 2 tone.

There are two, which both departed my possession in the mid-1980's in order to finance post graduate education:

The Browning High Power that saved my bacon in Tierra Amarilla, NM one afternoon in 1979. I didn't have to fire a shot, but I truly believe that if I was not carrying that pistol and had not drawn it, that I would not be alive to post this today.

A pristine Colt 1908 .380 with original box, instructions, factory target, and factory hang tag. In addition to being a beauty, it was the handgun that my daughter fired at age 4 under my careful supervision.

I don't regret getting that Master's Degree, but in retrospect I wish that I had taken on a 2nd job to cover the additional expenses those two semesters.

Although I lost no money on any of these sales, they're now all worth 2-3 times what I sold them for plus I miss the 'cool' factor.

Early Model 67 no dash with stainless sights. Gussied up a bit when I went to a school at the S&W factory in 1974.
I have no idea when I sold or traded it off.
Heavy Barrel pre-14 4" police gun, used, ordered from J&G Sales in about 1975.
Don't recall where or when that one got away, either.

Every gun I ever sold.

I went through about ten years of collecting/accumulating, primarily the Colt and S&W prewar classics, and primarily in high condition, although I did have a factory refinish Wolf & Klar, as I recall.

I really enjoyed doing doing the research, buying and bidding, after I knew what I was doing. Still have a great library.

And then... well, I guess I felt sated. And, coincidentally, my second son from my first marriage, changing careers, wanted to get a master’s degree. He didn’t ask me for the bucks, but he found an inexpensive way, comparatively, to do it, get a master’s.

So, I sold most of the guns off, via auction. I think overall I came out ahead, and I used the bux for my son’s master’s. He was/is very grateful. I had fun with the guns collecting them, having them, and then watching them go.

It was a good experience.

I am down to a mere five handguns now, all revos, but each is special to me. Four of the five are customized to my liking, and the fifth, a Model 10, is promised to a friend when he wants it.

It’s been a lot of fun. And, while, sure, I miss the ones that are gone, I don’t regret selling them. I made the right choice, for me, I think.

I've been doing the buy, sell and trade thing for about 60 years now. The hunt is the most fun. Once they enter the collection it's on to the next sale or acquisition. Just something I enjoy.

Living a dream - S&WCA #2364

I collected vintage military arms from the US, Britain, Germany and Russia. I had a pretty nice collection of unissued Or as new arms that I eventually sold. There were just too many to name but honestly I enjoyed the money I made and bought other enjoyable toys.

I’d say the one or two pistols I wish I’d would be a Mauser C96 in new condition with wooden holster and a new WWII issue but unissued P38.

Think of it as a cautionary tale.

I sold a SIG 226 in .40 S&W to a classmate back in 2010. A LE trade in I got for $350 at a gun show at FT Gordon. It was the nicest shooting .40 cal i had ever shot. I asked to buy it back later, but they had gotten ride of it. Sad

Thankfully, I was never foolish enough to sell a S&W.

When I was younger, I foolishly sold and traded away quite a few that I should have kept. However, in the last twenty years or so, I've replaced most of them (actually all except one) with something as nice or nicer.

The one I haven't replaced was my first S&W, a fourth model Safety Hammerless, w/2" barrel, in pristine condition.

My current gun accumulation far exceeds anything I expected when I was a kid. So I can't complain.

For me a S&W 2.5” 586 and a 3” 681pc gun

Mostly my 3" 65. I also miss my 2" 64. My Glock 23, not so much.

I can't think of any I regret, just some I'd like to be able to sell at today's prices. Several Colt Pythons, including a few new in box, as well as several collectible Rugers and S&W's. I'd still sell them, because I just don't have the money and space for all the guns I've owned over the years. I'd just have sold them at higher prices

My first M1 Garand, my Browning Hi Power, and my 6" Highway Patrolman.

Curiously, I don't really regret selling the 4" Highway Patrolman since I used the $$ to buy the 6". I just prefer longer barrels. BUT, it is still a Smith lost...

Way too many to count that I should have kept that economics forced me to part with either to eat, pay Bill's, or to fund another gun that I wanted.

The one I really want back is my K22 that I had sent to Armoloy. I was just plain stupid to let it slip away.

Back in my early 20's I rebarreled an old 48 Spanish Remington rolling block with a Numrich 45-70 barrel. Had to do some modifications to the new barrel but it didn't cost a lot. Wasn't much to look at either but it was a fun project, shot well and it was my baby. Cast my own bullets and made reloads with one of those Lee "whack a mole" sets. I had less than $200 in it and sold it for $250. I have a remote hope to see it for sale on the local trading boards someday, but probably not. Have since bought a couple more rollers but that first one... well, it's kinda like the first girl you kiss. Those memories stay with you.

As true for many others, I have sold many guns I should have kept and regretted it ever since. The leaders of that pack include a Volcanic pistol, a Colt Walker, several nice Civil War-era carbines (Smith, Burnside, Sharps), an unfired US&S M1911A1, a very low SN Ruger Blackhawk flat-top .44 Mag, a large collection of high-condition U. S.- made pocket pistols of the early 20th Century, and two Colt Match Target Woodsmans (one NIB). But that is by no means a complete list. Almost as regretful is the list of really unusual guns I have had the opportunity to buy at very attractive prices but didn't. Led by a Ruger .22 well-documented to have been owned by Ian Fleming for $500.

I will regret the one I sell today ,,,, or tomorrow.
BUT , that will finance the gun I buy the day after that,,, whatever that is.
It all works out and THAT is the fun.

2 Colt Detective Specials: one minty nickel older model with exposed ejector rod, and a new blue model with ejector rod shroud. Placed them on consignment at my friend's LGS. A gent placed a deposit on both and was then allegedly transferred out of state by his casino employer. He made minimum payments for 2 years until he returned to LV and made the final payment. I finally got some $ back after 2 years. I'm sure he sold both the next day for a handsome profit. I'm only glad it was 2 guns and not something substantial like a house.

My regrets are 3 or 4 I didn't BUY. I'm sure in the moment I had a good reason but now ..... not so much.

I couldn’t come close to putting a number on guns I should have kept if I was looking at it for the money standpoint. I’ve went through literally hundreds of guns. Wouldn’t have been possible if I hadn’t sold and traded.
You tend to remember big tag items. When you look at it that isn’t where the money was at. The money is in stuff that was dirt cheap like Milsurps that sold in barrels for $20 that are now bringing $500+. Look at GI 1911s
that go from $50 to $2500. That kind of percentage beats out most gain for classic collector stuff. The only thing that I regret is now deciding I want a gun that is now $1500 that I once bought new for $150.

Fortunately, after seeing endless sad stories online about folks selling guns only to regret it later, I've decided to never sell any of my firearms.

I see way too many people making the same mistakes as others do, never learning anything from them or taking the advice of those who have been there, and frankly I learned my lessons in younger days about being an arrogant fool who refuses to accept advice from those older and wiser than I.

There's nothing worse than living with regrets, and I have more than enough of them already, so rather than join the ranks of folks waxing poetic about firearms they've sold as if talking about a lost love, I'll simply be patient, save my money for new firearms I want rather than selling/trading away ones I already have on impulse, and in a state of financial emergency I'll find a better alternative than selling off all of my valuables for a song.
Another lesson I was fortunately able to learn secondhand; Don't pawn off your valuables in a financial emergency, you'll just get ripped off by people who prey on you in your moment of desperation, and you'll most likely come up short of covering yohr expenses anyway, so it just isn't worth it.

The only 2 that I remember (I am old) getting rid of, that I regret, are a Series 70 Colt and a satin nickel Colt Commander. I made a few bucks on the Series 70, and I used the Commander in a trade for a Model 41.
