That is a beautiful setup. VERY nice.
Back in the day, in my ignorant youth, I failed to comprehend that these would one day become stunning heirloom-grade keepsakes. I should have bought at least a few of them when they were available and relatively inexpensive. Oh well...

It has a time period correct Bausch & Lomb scope on it, mounted on a Kuharsky Bros mount.
They are still out there and if you wait long enough you'll find an affordable one. I know I'm hooked...

Tough to beat with the claro walnut and rosewood forend tip. Sure look purdy now compared to most offerings.

Thank you, it's a beautiful gun considering it's "just" a deluxe and not even a custom. I'll have to look for the original price once we are moved, everything is packed already.

Quite common back in the day I've heard. This is a Bausch & Lomb scope with the factory covers.
Rigby offers them for a few different scopes. I love it.

Not too long ago Craig Boddington did an article on walnut in one of the gun rags. He said The prices for black, English, and claro walnut has gone through the roof in recent years. No wonder so many synthetic stocked guns on the market these days. I would hold onto those claro guns for sure.

My Official Wood, Leather & Steal Photo Op:
1958 Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in .270 Win.
Tiger striped the whole length of the wood
Period correct sling that came with the gun when I got it used
Original metal finish
(Yes it has the 1958 plastic butt plate, but the wood makes it a special rifle)
Set up as my personal Jack O'Conner Tribute Rifle, with a Leupold 4X Mountaineer:
To me, this rifle defines "pre-64 Winchester Model 70"
And consider this, it was a standard grade hunting iron.

Both are TOPS Knives, the one on the top is their Longhorn Bowie, the one on the bottom is their A-KLUB.
Should I ever go on a Safari hunt the A-Klub will be coming with me

It sure is a nice rifle and period correct for an O'Connor fan. He sure was dead set on the .270Win but I believe he liked the 7x57 Mauser as well 
I'd like to visit the Hunting Heritage and Education Center in Idaho one time...

I'm down to two Weatherby rifles. The first is a 1985 Vanguard VGX in 300 Win Mag. When I bought it new, I had it Mag-na-ported and Williams iron sights installed. I put a Leupold 3-9x30mm compact on it, but as my eyes got older I've gone to a 4.5-14x40mm full size Veri-X III. Last time I shot it offhand, I put 3 shots touching at 100 yards! (Federal Premium 200 grain Serria Gameking Ammo)
My other Weatherby is a post 2000 Mark XXII. Those are Anschutz 64 action in a Weatherby stock. With Ely "Club Plus" or "Team" ammo I get very consistent dime size 5 shot groups at 100 yards. It is an absolutely beautiful adult sized rifle, that now carries a Leupold 4.5-14x40mm Veri-X III. Many opossums, ground hogs, and raccoons around the farm house met their maker with a sudden introduction, curtesy of the fine set up!
The only leather scope covers I own were in a box of assorted "Stuff" I got from a gun store about 20 years ago. They appear to fit one of the older 28mm objective scopes. But all my Walnut and Blue Iron rifles are carried on leather slings!

Love it. I got rid of all my other rifles, just focusing on Weatherby now. I want quality over quantity. All 3 rifles carry a Wby sling, I know I'm such a dork. But I love it
This is my goal.

I have an old German made Mark 5 in .300 Weatherby mag in my safe, got some miles on it but still shoots great. It's had a muzzle brake added. Great rifles!
