What’s best to use on these handles to protect them while still providing a non-slip grip?

I use Renaissance Wax on new stacked leather handles. I haven’t had any issues with them being slippery and it protects the leather.

I use homemade spoon butter on old knife handles, when the leather gets a little ratty. It’s a mixture of bee’s was and mineral oil. It’s also good to use on world cutting boards!

Thanks! That’s what I was thinking of using but didn’t want to make a difficult to remove mistake.
I use mineral oil on my cutting boards already but have not added bees wax.
The two mix together ok I presume.

Yes, they mix together well. Use a stainless steel bowl placed in a pan of boiling water to melt the wax and then mix in the mineral oil. You want it fairly thick. I keep it in a small jar and apply it with my finger. A little bit goes a long way!

What is the mix ratio?
People usually seem to leave out that critical bit of information.

There is a mineral grease they use in meat slicers and grinders that works well. Can also be used on cutting boards and other things that contact food.
Comes in cans but also available in a tube, not expensive.
I have suspended knife with handle in Neats Foot oil if in real bad shape. It will swell leather up and tighten. Works very well if dried out handle is only problem. I wipe my Estwing hammers with neats foot too.

If I was to get a brand new knife or tool with stacked leather handle as soon as polish wore off I would be treating them with Dow Corning Shoe Saver. The liquid with applicator, not spray.

I use roughly 2 parts oil to 1 part wax. I like i on the thick side. If it doesn’t suit you, you can always reheat it and add more wax or more oil.

Darn it, now I'm getting hungry! Ballistol is also not a bad choice. Its main ingredient is mineral oil. Not only for leather, but wood grip handles, cleaning powder, lead, & copper residue and doesn't gum up in cold weather or over time. That mixture with the wax on leather sounds like a good home-grown recipe. BTW, mineral oil is what we use in refrigeration systems (of course specially formulated for the type of refrigerant) because of its miscibility with the low temp of the refrigerant. I used to use refrigerant oil to break in softball & baseball gloves and tool pouches. Thanks for the tip on that recipe! Jeff

I use BagBalm. It works good. But use it at your own risk. It’s really only meant for bags.

It has petrolatum (not Petroleum), lanolin, paraffin, and an antiseptic.

I could be crazy, but I don’t ever get mold on my leather stuff since I switched. I think it’s the antiseptic.

I use it very sparingly. I’ve been using it for 20 years and still have the same tub.

Never had the issue. If you just slather it on and not wipe off the excess I could see this happen. Ive been using it for years on all my leather gear and it's waterproofed the leather and kept them from getting salt stained in the winter time.

Ive even used it on new leather shoes and boots that are stiff and then bent the toes and sides up and down and is really helped break them in quicker doing this.

I don’t “slather and leave it”. I rubbed it in well and wiped off any excess and in time a white film would form. I thought at first it was mold but I think it was really the mink oil leaching out.
I definitely don’t use it on holsters because it will soften the leather.
Good for boots, bad for holsters.

I would use Blackrock Leather dressing. It is a paste, and it freshens and preserves the leather without softening it like Mink oil will. It's been used on boots for many years.

I have used Blackrock with very good results.
