Damascus and Elk, Elder wood and W2
Two totally different knives. The damascus blade is mounted to an elk tine that was gifted to me by a great friend. In fact he brought me a set of elk antlers from a Colorado hunt. The guard is micarta with brass and micarta spacers. The second knife is W2 steel differentially heat treated to produce a hamon. The scales on this knife are referred to as hybrid - elder wood stabilized in an epoxy resin. It's nice to use when the wood is not stable enough in it's natural state to make suitable knife handles/scales.

Nice! I particularly like the Elk and Damascus one. Interesting to see a hilt made of Micarta.

Very impressive pair! Does the stabilized wood feel like plastic or like wood? The colors are very cool looking.

Thanks. I’d say it feels like highly finished and waxed wood. Sanded to 800 grit, buffed and polished wax finish.

Very nice work from a back yard blacksmith who occasionally will make
a knife. Mine do not look that professional or finished but are functional.
Do you have a power hammer or is the Damascus hand made?

I like W2, I had a nice slimline trapper pattern in W2 from ABS MS Don Hanson III that was a honey. It's a great steel when hardened to 62 RC, takes a very fine edge.

A power hammer is on my wish list . I typically get my damascus from Vegas forge or Alabama damascus. I do forging with a gas forge but the majority of my blades are stock removal. Thanks and would love to see some of your work. .
