Congratulations, that’s a nice Colt. It’s even more impressive when you consider how hard it is to find anything right now. I’m waiting to run across a blued 1911 Classic in .38 Super.

I am in the market for one of those myself. I added it to my wish list at Bud's, that's how I wound up with this one.

We have a Colt in .38 Super, Wendy's favorite centerfire pistol caliber.

That's a beauty. For some reason, I prefer the Super 38's to the 38 Supers New Colt

This is all I have to add! Don't know how it shoots because it hasn't been. Combat Commander in 38 Super, new in the box.

An excellent find. With a 9MMP barrel and magazine you can have a pistol in two calibers.

For those who may be unaware, any GM in .45 ACP can easily be converted to .38 Super, needing only a new slide, .38 Super barrel, ejector, and magazine. Add a 9mm barrel and magazine, and you have three calibers on one frame (might need an assortment of recoil springs also).

Bruce, what's the deal? Is this newly manufactured, or is it from back in the day when they made Series 70?

10mm and 40 S&W are also possible. I converted my Delta Elite to 45 ACP. I also found that the 45 ACP ejector works just fine with 10mm, but there is an unsightly gap between the slide and the ejector.

I was under the impression that the position of the ejector in the receiver of an M1911 determined what caliber you can use and you can only use rounds which have the cartridge base size and will fit into the breechface of the slide.

There are two basic sizes of ejectors, 45 ACP and all calibers smaller in diameter than 45 ACP. The location of the ejector in the receiver does not change, it is the width of the ejector that changes and a corresponding change in the ejector slot cut into in the slide.

Very nice Bruce! Hopefully, it will sit in the Brill without too much chafing on the leather

Here is my first (and, so far, only) Super 38.

New Colt-img_9934-jpg

It shoots like a champ. My dad and I had a range day with this Colt.....I was really looking hard to make certain that it made it back into my range bag when we left. The red ramp and white outline are really neat on this one. They make it feel like an old friend (S&W).

May the spirit of Mr. Browning haunt any heretic who holds a 1911 that is not chambered for the .45 ACP cartridge!

Sir, Mr Browning invented the .38 ACP BEFORE the .45 ACP.

Scott,
My Brill is Commander length, but I do have a really nice Heiser flap that it might fit. This will make two Supers in LW Commander and two 5". I have basically set aside my 45's in favor of the Super.

Bruce

We can thank JMB that he designed the M1911 around the 45ACP so chambering it for smaller cartridges didn't require major redesign and retooling. Unfortunately he and Dieudonne Saive designed the Browning HP around the 9MMP so we have no Browning HP in 38 Super or 45ACP.

My Series 70 (circa 1974) is my FAV centerfire target pistol - HANDS DOWN! It is also the most frequently shot pistol I own. Enjoy yours!! It is also responsible for me getting a Dillon.
